Indycar in Sydney?

AA reporting that the NSW Government is going to fund a double header race in Sydney with Supercars & Indycars...

Doesn't say where?

https://autoaction.com.au/2019/10/30...6563E8PTxp7OFI

Apparently deal with QLD Govt has fallen over.

Puhleeze not SMP.

If there was a race to have a double-header like this please let it be Philip Island (I know I am dreaming).

If an Indycar race ran under lights at SMP it mightn't be so bad. I'd go.

It would be nice to see Indycars in Australia, like it used to back in the day when it went to Surfers Paradise

If not SMP, it'd have to be a street circuit.

Who would want to spend money to get on TV in the US?

Can't really have the Katoomba Street race can we?

Catalina Park goes mostly left, almost like an oval

The front wings will scoop up the weeds and growth in opening practice nicely too

Homebush is out due to the Western Sydney metro.Newcastle is not Sydney.Bathurst is not Sydney.
Anyway either of these circuits are not remotely suitable for Indycars even allowing for some of the goat track street circuits IndyCar have raced on.Bathurst has no run off at most points.
I would be surprised if Supercars quit Eastern Creek within months of convincing the same government to install permanent lighting there to lock in a Supercar round long term.
Will probably all come to nothing.

Oran Park?

I couldn't care less for anyone who bought land there, so I think a street race would be cool...

NSW has the best racetrack in the country, but it's unavailable for ~ 50 weeks of the year.

Given the Vodafone F1 car got around there okay a few years back, surely it could be a possibility?

F3 will be the fastest open wheelers that visit the Mountain "regularly" ie more than once.

I'm not sure if this Indycar rumour comes to fruition that it can be at SMP either. Not enough pit facilities for both categories...

They would rebuild the second set of pits near Turn 5?
Alternatively Supercar needs 12/13 of the double garages. How many does that leave for IndyCar?Another 12 would do it.
Still doubt it will happen

Surly no circuit has garages for support races? They have to camp in the paddock

Supercar doesn’t do camping in the paddock. They built a separate pit building for them at Albert Park.

At taxpayers expense and up until the last few years pit stops were not a feature of the Supercar races.

A disgraceful waste of money.

I'm pretty sure the pit building in question is just a fancy tent, that also gets use at Townsville and probably Newcastle as well.

Supercars teams should be perfectly happy with tents.

If shared tents are good enough for Super2 and Carrera Cup, the idea it is not good for Supercars is preposterous to say the least.

If true, this shows Supercars to have a disgraceful and untenable attitude.

Guess they have been the main event except for the F1? Long time since Australi had a serious race series-I remember the days of Tasman series

It probably deserves its own thread. Ford flogs complain about Roland's money while Roger buys the entire Indycar series and Indianapolis motor speedway
