Citing the unstable nature of the BTCC right now and his displeasure with the direction the series has gone, David Leslie will team up with former 2 wheel ace Kevin Schwantz in the Speedvision World Touring Cup in Mazda 626s for 2001.
hopew to see him in Dallas in three weeks! |

"Speedvision World Touring Cup"
I've never heard of this series, KC. Is this a descendant of the NATCC, or a one off? |

Get out of town? A TOP (at least previously) BTCC level driver racing in NA in the WC??? Whoa, that is hard to believe. Is Leslie paying for the drive? How much could the WC team pay him??
For those who don't want to surf around, the WC is supposedly close to GrpN or GrpN rules. It is split into the Touring and GT class. GT Class is made up of Porsche, Mustangs, Vipers, M3s and Corvettes. The Touring class is basically everything else like Celicas, Type Rs and 325s. For the last several years, the Integs/BMWs have consistently made up the top 10-15 finishers. You occcassionally have a few other cars (like Mazda 626 and Jetta) up there, but basically it has become a Integ/BMW series. In 2000, they alone, have had a minimum 6, max 12 sedans racing in touring class. It would cool if they were giving thier own championship. Then you also have the coupes/hatchbacks. The starting grids average 20 touring class cars. >Is this a descendant of the NATCC, or a one off? > I guess you could say that. For 2000, they have allowed (some level of) front splitters and a standardized rear wing for all touring class cars. They have people carrying manufacturer brand flags at the beginning as the cars line up for starting grid. |

Have you read the article on their site? He even says 'there's not much going on in the BTCC right now'.
Sure he's the right David Leslie? |
