Through the 'Wall of Death' or North Turn the Mercedes 'Streamliners' reached the possible top speed of 180 km/h or 112 mph. They were shooting down, out of the steep North Turn onto the following Avus straight going south where they reached a top speed of 385 km/h or 240 mph. At that speed overtaking was a delicate matter if not almost impossible. The German ONS did not want to take the responsibility of holding future events here with speeds having risen to what they were then in 1937. Therefore this was the last high-speed event held on the Avus.

An article from The Autocar dated December 19, 1947 quotes the MG K3 Magnette as having a top speed of about 114 mph. That's 6,300 rpm with a 4.89 to 1 axle ratio. Another car with a 4.33 to 1 axle ratio could do 120 mph at 6,100 rpm.
