Allan Simonsen

According to reports from the circuit, Allan Simonsen was killed racing his Aston Martin GTPro car at LeMans overnight

Story Here

Allan was always great for a chat, if something was bad, he had no hesitation explaining why, with a few Aussie-isms mixed in

Shocked

Stayed up to watch the start and had a horrible feeling straight away. Terrible news and thoughts go out to friends, family and 10/10er's who knew him very well.

I saw the crash but thought he was ok, fell asleep and woke a few hours later to read the news of his passing online.

Gutted. Just gutted. I followed Allan since he started racing in Oz and I was a big fan of his, always had so much admiration for his driving and the way he carried himself outside the car, I didnt know him personally but knew people who knew him and they thought very highly of him as a person.

Im watching LM right now but all I can think of is Allan. I just cannot wrap my head around the fact that he is gone

Rest in peace. Thankyou for the wonderful memories

One of my favourite Bathurst memories was when I bought a 1:18 scale diecast model of a Falcon to be signed by all the Ford drivers. During one of the sessions, Simonsen (driving a Holden) accidentally signed it - and was then told off by Murph next to him before we all had a laugh. RIP Allan - a brilliant driver.

Motorsport has lost another talent.
Tragically a family has lost a husband & father.

So sad.

I saw the post crash videos. While it looked bad; bent cage and all I never thought this. Was absolutely sick when I heard the news. Very sad indeed. Thoughts and prayers to his family. RIP and God's Speed Allan.

watched it happen but never thought this. such a talented driver, IMO one of the best in the world when it came to GT driving. he was so fast, so reliable and always delivered. he was the same in his V8 enduro drive's & i thought his podium in 2011 with Murph was just reward for his efforts. motorsport will miss him not only because of his excelent driving exploits but also he was a top bloke.

the saddest part of all this is there is a wife without a husband & a young baby who will grow up without a father.

RIP Allan, condolences to all family & friends.

Anybody know if there will be a local memorial service for Allan?
Also I am going to contact the 12 hour organisers with the suggestion that the pole winner for the 12 hour should receive The Allan Simonsen Trophy.
As an international GT event I'm sure it would be most sought after knowing how highly regarded Allan was.
