Not sure about Paddon - it's hard to judge based on part seasons but he's not really shone on the events he's done. He's not really got near Neuville and is he any better than Sordo or Mikklesen? Given a choice between Loeb and Paddon it's a bit of a no-brainer isn't it really?

He’s solid, I’ll give you that, although as we saw in Spain Loeb hasn’t exactly lost his talent and speed has he?

crossfades should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid

Looking at just points, Mikkelsen should be the one out. Paddon did seven events this year ending at 73 points and Sordo did seven events as well and got 71. Mikkelsen however scored just 84 points.

When Mikkelsen joined, he was a driver who had the potential to challenge for a world title and at least be a driver that would score points for the manufacturers championship. Back then, I would definitely go with him over Paddon, who had struggled in 2017, and Sordo. Now though, I'm not so sure.

I think Mikklesen is out as well isn't he? I haven't seen him confirmed anywhere. But yes he's not progressed as much as I thought he would.

I don't really think part seasons really work - ok to stick an extra car in for an event with a specialist at the wheel (like Pannizi on tarmac for example) but swapping drivers in and out doesn't really seem like a great idea to me.

Mikkelsen will do the whole season along with Neuville while Sordo and Loeb will do share the third car, leaving Paddon out.

I'm not a fan of it either but it is somewhat of an unfortunate situation. This season Hyundai had contracts with both Sordo and Paddon and couldn't leave one of them out since they decided to bring in Mikkelsen. Next season Loeb won't do the whole season and Sordo got a before Paddon.

There aren't enough cars for drivers who belongs in the WRC IMO. The repercussions of other teams (VW leaving and now Citroen only fielding two cars etc) has turned things upside down for drivers.

Ah - thanks - I'd either missed that or forgotten it - so I'd agree, it's not the best lineup they could have had.

Agreed - I think the problem is that you don't get privateer entries in WRC now - I guess the current generation of WR cars is just too expensive to run for a full season on a privateer budget?

WRC2 is a good class as a support and I think entry costs there are more achievable for privateers as the 'off the shelf' R5 cars are readily available. I think maybe better coverage of the WRC2 class would be a good step - the action there certainly seems to warrant it.

Agreed - this last couple of seasons since the latest cars were introduced have been really good. Next season will be interesting with all the driver moves but hopefully it'll still be as close.

In 2017 only manufacturers were allowed to enter but they changed it before this season. However, only two privateers entered with M-Sport supplying the cars. PH Sport, an affiliate of Citroen, had planned to rent out a car for rounds this season but no one entered.

Finally, Citroen offered Østberg a third car next season but it would come at a cost of 3 000 000-4 000 000€.

Which isn't hard; 2008 into 2009 saw just Citroen & Ford, after Subaru & Suzuki pull the plug pre Christmas.

But, I think we need to make the most of the current era, as already its seemingly unsustainable. Cars which are expensive and you're lucky if you get to see 10-12 on an event.

I wonder how Mr. Loeb and Mr. Elena will reconcile Dakar and Monte.
No time to rest for them.

M-Sport may not be in WRC next season:

https://www.autosport.com/wrc/news/1...for-wrc-future

They're short on funding and the entry deadline is looming. It'd be sad to see them drop out of the championship - and without them next season may not live up to the past couple of years.

I hope they are able to make it. Would mean less opportunities and less cars if they weren't, which won't help

It would be an awful shame to lose M-Sport from the championship. They've contributed so much to it over the years.

The Red Bull sponsorship came with Ogier - he's gone so the sponsorship has gone too. Evans had(has?) some Red Bull backing but not to the same level. So M-Sport have no title sponsor and little (any?) manufacturer backing.

M-Sport has been confirmed by FIA as a manufacture for the upcoming season. https://www.fia.com/news/2019-fia-wo...gi6MOPaM7dSSdg

Pontus Tidemand will do Monte Carlo and Sweden with M-Sport. https://sverigesradio.se/sida/artike...06g0YmMyj22ZYc

Interesting - so have they found the budget they need or are they going to do a part season (so Tidemund in for the two announced events only and then others as and when drivers/funding are found)?

To answer my own question - M-Sport now confirmed their 'intended continuation' in the WRC with Evans and Suninen - so on the face of it good news - but the 'intended' part of it suggests there's still some doubt.

Well I’m sure they have the budget for the first few rallies, it remains to be seen if they can do a full season

According to some Swedish speculators, or a friend of mine who read about it, an event 200,000 pounds per event.

I am surprised that Evans is still in the squad since he said himself in Australia that he didn't have a WRC drive for 2019. I also wonder what Paddon is up to and I haven't read anything about Breen at all since Citroen cut the third car.
