Well, it's not so bad. If they took out the esses before the bridge, then it would be really good, but with the Dunlop chicane before these, it will just be right, left, right, left, right, left on and on. Pretty soon, the place will just be a giant oval with 1,000 chicanes.

I am sorry if my sense of history is so oppressive.

I'll reserve judgement till I see a Bentley followed 3 MG's and 5 tired Audi's going though at 15:55 on Sunday afternoon.

I don't think lap time will suffer a lot as it is a fairly easy bend. The back markers may cause a problem but it looks like there is more than one line though the curve. I would like to see the viewing from what used to be the funfair banking into the Esses though.

Thanks for that the good DR, but I was hoping for the new view.

Looks like all the tree's have gone. I would guess that the sweep follows the footpath track through the old funfair site. It will be interesting to see where the funfair is this year and what has become of the spectator banking just before the Esses.

Still I'm sure Mmme Fifi and the girls will find a space though.

People take great comfort in the things that never change. A sanctuary is a place that no matter how mad the world becomes, one can always count on the tranquility of familiarity. And for me, leMans was a sanctuary that gave me comfort in the familiarity of the White house, the Mulsanne, and of course, the Dunlop Bridge.

The old familiar things are gone. There is no White House.
Now there are three Mulsannes. I cannot find the old signalling pits. And where has the Targa and the mille miglia gone?

But through it all, there has always been Dunlop.

Even as a young man, I remember the Dunlop bridge as part of my slot car track. I have never know a time when it did not exist. But now, the last familiar place is changed forever. It is just a sad part of life that we must accept and move on.

But not without a final look back..........

Be patient, fans... I go to the track today and I'll try to take pictures... weather is ugly, will be pouring rain pictures... does it remember something if you where here last year ? I was soaked at this place...

What I fear is to be farer and farer from the cars... have you seen how far are the greed from the track ?

I agree Fab, I'm sure the Bugatti benefits, but as far as the 24hour car race is concerned, we've lost another unique piece of track, just look at those photos posted above, all evocative of Le Mans, even to non racing enthusiasts. The spectacle will be downgraded and I wait to see what efforts will be made to give us fans some decent viewing areas. I wait with interest to see your (soggy) photos.

Gentlemen, forgive my ignorance but has the wall been pushed out or the track moved? What has actually happen? What ever has I don’t like it one little bit. As has been said before, there are certain corners and places in motorsport that are sacred and the Esses were one of the few remaining corners, almost from a bygone era. RIP to the Esses of old.

Forget it, Doc, what I saw is... ugly

My pictures are too big, let me an hour to reduce them...

Well (if I may say so...) :
- the public is really far from the cars, I think,
- the curves are too hard (left, and right, and left, and right, and... sob !)
- no more bank on the side... but somethnig could be interesting : you can see the track from farer back the ex-bank (remember : behind the bank, you couldn't see nothing ; now, no more obstacle... except the lorries of the funfair...)
- the track is not finished yet for cars (only for bikes)
- the track look really tiny here... no more pass-over allowed I guess...

Oh, damn st !

OK, here's the first (I have to admit that it's difficult to see anything on this thumbnail, but I've no site on my own to post the big ones - 1600x1200)...

This is the where was the funfair... I took it from the base of the Dunlop tire...

Another one, not very different, but where you can see that he track is not painted yet at this place, and seems so tiny for two cars...

At least they left in some elevation change. elevation changes is what makes those images so spectacular. it is what leaves such opportunity to re-create the moment through artwork. If you look at Mulsanne Express by Nicolas watts, he depicts the table flat Mulsanne with some elevation change, undulations if you will. It is the elevation chasnge that gives us such a wide, tall memory of the event. At least we might get a good Watts print out of this.

Aaargh!! My worst fears are confirmed, it's a dogs **** of a job. What are the ACO trying to do?? Looks like a lot of trees have gone too, seeing the cars flash through the trees there and lift off the gas was all part of that magic. Thanks for the photos Fab, you obviously brafed the weather and mud, thoroughly spoilt my day though...
