peckstar has a lot of promise if they can keep it on the circuit!
Prize Money

According to enews currently there is a 90:10 split between appearance fee: and prize money

But they are looking at doing away with prize money altogether (in contrast to the $2 million bonus grand slam thread)

it will mean less income to some teams (the ones at the top ie 888 & HRT) and more to the ones at the bottom

There is no logical sense splitting out prizemoney from REC income, where the details of it all are secret and secretive.

The NASCAR example, where the prizemoney is published, is another alternative, where the driver accumulates the income, not the team itself.

So of the $22m or so VESA has available each season to redistribute to its teams, the 90:10 ratio suggested by the article, says $2.2m of that distribution is performance based.

The question you may ask is whether knowing the team will get $X for your finishing position is actually a motivator for the driver to do better?

A little incentive is good for the show, especially if the drivers have a piece of it. A good pro driver is always going to do the best they can anyways, but a bit of extra cash always helps. IMHO my personal feeling and suspicion with many of the V8 Supercar drivers is that there is a bit of cruise and collect going on out there. Personally as a driver I'd rather be on a performance based contract(mechanical based failure exempted) than a straight salary.

In nascar the prize money is published under the drivers name, but almost always that is split with the car owner with a small percentage going to mechanics and other track staff.
