a question im not sure has been asked around here but we have 2 good quality papers that come out here in Oz ..one weekly and the other bi weekly..so which one do you buy and read ..if any ????

I know a few may even do some work for some of them ..but come on be honest and why do you buy the one you do.

I voted for AA because basically it the one ive always read...it was for a while the only one we had ..there were a few others that came along but couldnt stand the test of time ...until Motorsport news...which is a top mag and I do buy occasionally..but i mainly but AA because it comes out every week ..so i dont have to wait the extra week for it like MN...but then again do i really need either of them as I now get most of my racing news hot off the net ????

dunno but I guess I will keep buying..gives me something to read at lunchtime at work.

MN , they tell the news without bias and give every one a go. They don't bag poeple for having a go. I remember one case where the editor called some competitors hopeless, you can't do that. MN all the way. I also prefer the A4 booklet thing. The fortnightly thing isn't great but hopefully it can all change.

Best way I find to compare the two is look at the coverage they give to an SCS round - AA - for the QLD 500 - 3 pages which, if you remove the ads, condenses to one page plus a team round up. Very little of what actually happened in the race - if I didn't know Jon Evans i would say he wrote that from watching it on TV. Oh sorry - I forgot - they spread their news over the whole issue (so do MSN btw)- obviously they are out of touch with how people like to read their reports.

MSN coverage of the QLD 500 - 8 pages - remove the ads and you still get 5-6 pages - very detailed and, as said - unbiased.

The editor of AA has taken numerous opportunities to call his letter writers idiots, fools and anything else he could think of in a derogartory term.

How much longer AA will be part of ACP Mens Lifestyle remains to be seen....

My 2.1 cents worth

I buy both, but I have to say that I'm of course biased towards AA

MN has slacked off a fair bit recently in their National coverage, both in word count and the number of classes they cover. I'll also admit to being a big fan of Tony Glynn's column too..

I purchase both and for similar reasons to Crash am biased to MN. Actually I was biased towards them before I worked for em.

Crash, I resemble that remark about national coverage. I do my best to cover everything and did at the bumper state champ round at Oran Park in a fortnight that contained a huge amount of racing.

I have to strongly disagree with crash's comments about MN 'slacking' off - I guess the best way to describe it is that at least you don't have to go on a holiday for a month or more before hoping to see anything appear in AA! (unless, of course, it happens to relate to V8's)

Ozzie Drivers overseas covered

As an ozzie competing over here in the UK, some more home local coverage of us competing over here would be good.
I've heard from various people on here that I get a bit of coverage in AA but by the sounds of it, not much?

Does MN cover overseas drivers and the series they are in?
I'm more well known out here than back home in Oz. I think that's a big shame :-(

Best regards

Now now RT, I can site for you some recent race meetings which AA beat MN to. Ok, it takes some time for some of the support classes to national rounds to get into AA (like the Improved Prods at the Procar meeting), but after a couple weeks AA did stick several hundred words in compared to the zippo that MN ran. AA has been much quicker since they cut their national reports from a full page to a half page last year.

But both are good mags

Hyla- I've got a few more clippings here from recent weeks that I'll send over when I get a chance.

I buy both magazines, and enjoy reading both.

However if I was to choose one over the other, MN would win out. They have a much more detailed and precise reporting style. Whereas AA is inflationary and controversial.

I consider them to be compared like the Herald Sun and the Age. With MN being the equivalent to the Age.

I buy MN because i believe it to be of better quality to AA although as has been said previously on this thread with great sites like this and plenty of others on the internet magazines aren't as important anymore.
