What is your favourite Group B rallycar and why?

Let me know what you personally rated the best Group B car ever and why you think it was so good.

Technically the RS200 could have been the best.

On an emotional level the S1 Audi has it for me. The sound of the engine is awsome.

Delta S4 was the most technically avant garde (ignoring the 959, which I'd argue was not a rally car).

205 T16 was the most successful (I think?)

Quatro Sport looked and sounded the wierdest (otherworldly).

Metro 6R4 was interesting, but doomed to be a dead end.

RS200 should have evolved into a winner, but didn't.

I give it to the Delta, but I really really liked the 037, although I'm not sure if it was Group B or not.

A favourite was the Opel Manta 400. Looked good and when driven on the limit sounded glorius. Who has seen In-car Manx 1983 with Vatanen in one of the Rothmans Opels.

I liked the Lancia Delta S4 as well, looked great and in many ways had the better of the Peugeot 205T16.

Audi Quattro (in all guises) - the original and best sounding/looking.

You haven't been to a clubman or national rally in the last 10 years. They are still winning rallies. in 1986 you could buy one for 16k

I assume you are refering to the 6R4 being an atmo rather than turbo that rivals had.

However Will Gollop produced a bi-turbo 6R4 which was very successful in rallycross.

Hello everyone

Well, the 037 was a Group B car - actually the first Group B car ever presented.

Audi Quattro A1 and A2 (Evolution) were Group 4 cars.

For me there are two points of view.

Performance: unexceptionably the 205 T16

to look, to hear, to own one: the Audi S1!

Yeah, I should have explained myself here (was in a hurry )

Dead end reference was due to lack of turbo - which was good in theory, but probably didn't anticipate how good the turbos were to get re power and lag. That engine responded to turbos OK in the Jag 220 (and obviously in rallycross as well). A mildly turbo'd 6R4 would have been quite a weapon had Group B lived for a couple more years (and if Austin Rover had the money to develop/support it)

My favourite Group B rally car was the S1 Quattro, simply cause of the sound. Truely awesome! However, the best Group B rally car ever had to be the Lancia Delta S4. I think it's fair to say that Toivonen was going to romp away with the championship in 86. The car probably had to be the most technologically advanced too with the supercharger/turbocharger system.

While the Delta S4 might have been technically the best and the 205 T16 was probably the most successful, the Group B car that I liked the best was the Lancia 037.

I remember seeing it in the Rally of New Zealand in 1983 (I think), and I instantly loved the looks, the sound, everything. I loved the concept - it was like someone had taken a Sports/GT off the racetrack, fitted rally tyres and let it loose on gravel.

Having said that the 1987 Group S Delta S4 only had a turbocharger. Maybe Lancia used a supercharger because ther engine was not as good as the 205 T16s.
