Brands Changes?!
Hi guys,
Was up at Brands Hatch today and noticed a few changes; chief amongst which is that it would appear the rallycross circuit has pretty much gone... Tumbledown (1st corner) has been topsoiled over and the turn off on the exit of Druids onto the Knife Edge has been blocked up. Was this expected? I'm not up to speed on my rallycross so I apologise if it's old news (I've looked back through the posts in here but can't see anything) but at least there's now photo evidence! JB |

Thats news to me - it will be a shame as since I've got into watching rallycross I've only managed to see rallycross at Brands once.
Hopefully Anglesey will be back in 2008 and Blyton will be on the British Rallycross calender as well. Lydden isn't exactly just round the corner when you live in Yorkshire! |

that will be a real shame to all spectators and rallycross drivers |

Certainly I noticed this last week. The general consensus speaking to people there, is that it is now very unlikely that rallycross will return. Pity.

Im Glad that I had the chance to race on the circuit a couple of years ago and it was fantastic.
However I fear that in this age where apperance is everything, Mr Palmer just is'nt prepared to see his grass choped up and the dirt spread on his circuit. Lydden is the home of Rallycross, long may it last. |

Here's a short clip of the Knife Edge (not a happy end to it though!) in a Junior - Liam only raced there once, shame he own't again (in Rallycross at least) ...

Its sad but I don't think there was much prospect of rallycross going back to Brands anyway - at least not under current policy. Hire charges are driving away other forms of club motorsport too (There was a report in last weeks MN about this).
Probably the only way rallycross will go back is if Motorsport Vision were to put its weight behind a bid for an ERC round - in which case the rallycross track would need to be modified anyway (probably partially bypassing the main staight) in order to meet ERC requirements. There may be more mileage in getting other major British tracks interested - Donington for example? Its got good gradient changes and lots of service roads that could be the basis for a rallycross track. And at the moment there are no BRC tracks in the Midlands... |

What a shame! If one reminds that the British RX GP was one of the three best attended Brands Hatch meetings with 20,000+ spectators in some of the good old Group 5 and Group B years... However, IMO one nail in their coffin was the ERC round in June 1995 (just 5,000 spectators). Brands Hatch was the perfect venue for the RX GP in early December but not for the ERC in the middle of the summer.

I have managed to get Lydden once and Brands once but there isn't really much in the north. I know Lydden is good but the meetings could have been spread around a bit. What was wrong with Blyton? I'll think I'll have to make do with Blyton for the Super Series and Croft at the end of the year. I keep meaning to go to Knockhill at somepoint but it always clashes with something else which is invariably a cheaper option! Is Knockhill rallycross worth making the effort to get to? |

Brands Hatch Rallycross RIP
I have a contact at Brands who has told me we won't see Rallycross at the circuit again hence the turfing over off tumbledown hill etc in a previous thread.
Thanks for the great Rallycross GP memories....................... |

I can confirm that this is correct. At a meeting last night the question about rallycross at Brands was asked (by me) and I was told that there are no immediate plans to run any meetings hence the work to re-grass "tumbledown". Sorry to be the bringer of this news.

Rallycross gone, what a loss, but then rallycross went VERY amateur in the 90's. Rose tinted specs make even the Meridian TV? rounds the week after the rallycross GP look good.
So, a new rallycross circuit at Brands? We can but dream http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=678653 run anticlockwise to keep the knife edge and hoppy's drop in the correct context Short and sweet, but maybe too much rough stuff. |

Why can't the start finish be used for ideally...because of the top speeds?
