Team BRM - have they raced formula ford before - good to see Richie Stanaway come across the Tasman...

Would Nick Percat start out as title favorite?

They have raced Formula Ford for the last few years. Ben Clucas did a couple of FF races with BRM whilst racing for them in F3 during the same year.

I would agree that Percat would start as title favourite, especially after such a successful outing at the FF Festival with JTR in 2008.

However I don't know the background of the other racers in that list, maybe someone could shed some light on this?

Yeah I would agree Percat is the favourite, considering he finished 2nd last year. I think Pye and Stanaway will be ones to watch too.

Lots of kids have stepped up from state series, New Zealand or karting which is great to see. Should be a VERY competitive year with a lot of depth.

Good to see the category going so strong. I guess with V8's being so strong it has to helped some of the junior categories.

I was just looking at the Clipsal 500 entry list and noticed that 27 of the current 29 drivers in V8 Supercar have done Formula Ford earlier in their careers!

And there is atleast 8 Formula Ford Champions running in the V8 Supercar series - though since 2002 when Jamie Whincup won the title no Formula Ford Champs have progressed to the V8's & kept a drive . Saying that, a few have tried there luck overseas & others have been unlucky not to pick up full-time drives...

Not quite true. David Reynolds is a Formula Ford champ (2004) and has entered V8 Supercar with Walkinshaw Racing this year.

And since Whincup there have been a few drivers that didn't win the FFord championship, but still progressed to the main V8 Supercar Series:

Winterbottom, Holdsworth, Caruso, Coulthard, Gisbergen, Slade, D'Alberto, Marshall, Perkins, A Davison, Patrizi, and Fiore.

Yep, correct, just saw the qualifying times & saw that David Reynolds was entered. Thats great, he has been a very good driver in other classes since he won the FFord title - glad he now has his chance

Interesting results at the Clipsal 500 today:

1st Jamie Whincup - 2002 Australian Formula Ford Champion
2nd Will Davison - 2001 Australian Formula Ford Champion
3rd Garth Tander - 1997 Australian Formula Ford Champion
4th Craig Lowndes - 1993 Australian Formula Ford Champion

Pretty good advertsing on display for the category!

The new LISTEC WIL 013 looks interesting.

Does anyone know if it making its world debut at the Australian Grand Prix this weekend?

If not i'm guessing it'll be at round two, in the hands on Glenn Welch.

Some pictures of the car can be found here: (from the team sydney web site)

As of a couple of weeks ago they were not going to the Grand Prix. The plan was to debut at the second round.

If you have a chance to have a look up close, take it. It is a nicely detailed car with a few differences in it to current thinking.

Chaz Mostert, Ryan Simpson and Nick Simmons are driving for Synergy Motorsport this season.

Would expect them to be up near the front this season.

yeah the TV last weekend was pretty cool!!!!!

they really are doing a good job of promoting the best junior catagory going in Australia, and clearly one of the most exciting world wide!!!

of note was Nick Percat winning all 3 races, and setting a new wins record of 20 wins in national formula ford! thats the most in the history of formula ford!!! (40yrs)

pretty amazing!!

that means that percat now has more wins than geoff brabham, david brabham, mark webber, craig lowndes, jamie whincup COMBINED.... and in less races!!

rather amazing!

have a look at http://www.formulaford.com.au

this guy is certainly putting on a good show! next round is sandown, and I might have to see this for myself!!!!

Nick is really doing well and drivers should take note.. This is his 3rd season in the national championship and has stayed until he wins the champioship, as directed by management, Tom Winlkinshaw. Says something to all those who just move up because they have the money. Drivers should take the time to get experience and success (confidents) b4 progressing. Its what the big teams look for.
