The 2014 F1 calender has been finalised and approved by the FIA
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/111726 It will have 19 races. In comes Russia & Austria out goes Korea & India. The final races look like a lot of extra travel for those involved. Japan Russia USA Brazil Abu Dabhi Why go to America and back to Abu Dabhi logic would surely have been Russia, Abu Dabhi, USA, Brazil. Money must be talking in the middle east!!! |

People, see that the official names are now Grand Prix of X. It's a disgrace!
Well, it's what French, Germans, Italians and Spanish do. |

Russia in October sounds rather cold? Why do they still need a holiday in august? Traditional date in the past of Swiss;Pescara;Portugal;Austria.

that's a question to ask the folk who are pretty much continuously on the road for the 4 months prior and the 3 months after.
also, many of the non f1 international series also take a break in august now. it's becoming a bit of a thing. |

Abu Dhabi last must mean money has been spent to secure that slot. I really dislike that track.
Oh well, here's to more championships being won at Brazil! And I'm glad to see the 22 race schedule didn't prevail. 19 is too many really, but 22? |

agreed i am also much happier with a race count under 20.
as for the August break, people need holidays but more so its not much of a holiday if your spouse or kids cant take that time off either. F1 might be global but reality is that most things still revolve around the northern hemisphere schedule and we take our summers off. |

I'm pretty underwhelmed by the 2014 grid. Hulkenberg for instance, while perhaps not as great as some suggest he might be, should've got more (look at the pointlessness, literally, of choosing a slow and/or crashing but popular driver over another, e.g. Massa or flipping Maldonado).
Then there's Maldonado even being at Lotus and the ultimate mediocrity in Sutil and Gutierrez at Sauber. What has Sutil ever done of note apart from smash a champagne glass in someone's face? |

The Austrian GP has got it legal approval from local authorities so now can go subject to a maximum 3 day crowd of 225,000 people.

There is a story that Texas Motor speedway is upset about an F1 race some 210 miles away from its NASCAR race on the same day, as there is a clash of dates. I would have thought the worry would have been from the COTA side as NASCAR is well established. I doubt the demographics arte the same anyway. How many NASCAR fan would go to an F1 race?

I agree with you there. I remember when the US GP was at Indy it was said of all the events at the Brickyard the GP was the one to fill the most Hotel beds. That would indicate that a lot of the fans wre traveling some distance to the US GP.

maybe im off base here but this is a pretty smart move on the part of the people at TMS probably aimed at generating more support for the event among the Nascar faithful more than any attempt to convert f1 fans with the added bonus of alienating undecideds against f1.
all this 'we have a different demo' stuff is just another way of saying F1 is cosmopolitan while nascar is provincial...its classism and F1 will lose this fight in the US every time (ask piers morgan). excerpts from BE response. article here. "We've a small problem they don't have... we have six jumbo jets to move around..." "The race prior to the one in the US is in Russia..." "At the end of the day they run a domestic series in America... we run a world championship." F1 in the US exists in part due to the use of public tax dollars and hence the the sufferance of Texan taxpayers...if you need the public's support you dont go out of your way to go into their house just to insult them. perhaps im over analyzing due to BE's current situation, but fact is his comments from now on are going to generate a lot more attention and get painted in the light of how out of touch he is. |

"The same demographics? No. Enough crossover that it would have been smart to not have the two on the same date? Yes. Richard " Seems Mr E and his circus are getting ideas of their own importance that may get them hurt in the U.S.A.! |

Since Russia has now invaded a European country, whose borders the USA and EU are sworn to protect, the cancellation of the Russian GP might provide an opportunity to reschedule this clash?
I agree with the philosophy that whilst demographics are not the same, there's enough potential crossover to make the clash problematic. |
