What entry numbers made the trip North? (i.e. Championship & Leaders)

I heard it was going to be less than 25!

Heard the commentator say there were 15 registered competitors going into the 2nd class runs. There were a few problems for people that depleted the entry. Tim & Will Mason were in the wars, Stewart Robb had a CWP that was slowly destroying itself etc etc
There were a few missing from the entry - eg Willem Toet

That's quiet a poor showing. Mind you we only mustered 19 at Lydden for the British Sprint Championship.

I can see 3 that I know didn't show, maybe 5 or 6. Then 3 definitely didn't start the event after practice problems.

Looked at from another angle, qualification wasn't easy.

There were more registered British Championship and Hill Climb Leaders contenders signed on than at each of the two Doune events last year.

But as Paul says, qualification was not easy. A damp and greasy Doune is possibly the most difficult of all hills. Always a good place to visit with a nice friendly organising team.

From a spectating point of view, I can understand the qualifying comments
run offs looked v. difficult too. However, everyone looked very committed. Has it got really competitive this year ?

It has been for a while. This year though is a very interesting one. There are 10 maybe 11 drivers in over 2000cc cars that have mounted the sort of campaign where given the ability of the driver, and the quality of the car underneath them, would be dissapointed with anything lower than 5th at the end of the year. 3 or 4 of them have a serious and realistic ambition at the top spot. And to keep the preassure on, there are a bunch of extremely talented guys in a variety of machines, who aren't doing the full season, but could still snipe off enough points here and there to sneak a Top 10 spot.

I think it's a case with Doune that some drivers know they won't go well there and prefer(/can only afford) to only make one trip up a year and assume that the other two rounds will be the scores they drop.
