I like the way his helmet livery matches the livery on the side of the car

"Ginger Marshall's aluminium bodied, space-framed Mini Clubman Estate leads off the line (Imp engine on a Mini gearbox), this is 1976 it is a Forward Trust up to 1000cc Special Saloon race, the 850cc Imp was on pole but didn't win."

The Imp engine mated to a Mini gearbox to challenge the Imps in the up to 1000cc class.

Here it is at home in the Fiat;

The Fiat was bought by Ian Medcalf off Peter Day as a rolling shell in 1987 and a Swiftune A-series engine installed for hillclimbs and sprints.
Ian is trying to find some in period film footage of the Fiat (or Mini) with the unique sounding half BDA engine.....so if anyone has any footage or photos from back in the day please share!

Photo of stripped down Allen BDH Mini engine and gearbox.
It could well be from Peter Kitchen's Allen Mini racer in CCC article above or one from the same batch.

Some photos of the late Chris Tyrrell (Mini Se7en Champion in 1974, 1986 and 1987) - with beard/white T-shirt - and his Mini Seven. I think the Leyland Mini Challenge sticker on the rear side panel says 1978. Chris was always a front runner and produced many of the leading Mini race engines and cylinder heads at the time from his small workshop in Leatherhead, Surrey.

Excellent stuff, thanks for posting Chris was quite a character (and actually did me a head for my Mini Se7en).
Before my eyes had got to the back of the drivers door in the first picture I know whose car it was!

I second Vivs thanks. Chris was indeed a character. M7 seemed to collect its fair share of characters back then. A lot of us racing on very little money, but having tremendous fun. Happy days indeed.

Photo above of Chris Tyrrell after one of his many wins in Mini 7. My brother Steve Bell became his race mechanic in his later years of Mini 7 and also during Chris's Metro Challenge seasons. Steve went on to be a Mini Seven Champion himself in 1997 and came close to being a Mini Miglia Champion....
