You obviously haven't kept up with the threads or news then - AIR is (supposedly) being resurfaced this Dec/Jan - Drags are already back up and running there and circuit racing is supposed to start early next year.

mixxer - funny - I don't see anywhere I mentioned ANDRA (or any other organising body) in relation to the drags.
However - that aside - whether you, I or Batman consider it a B grade track - the fact is that drags HAVE started again at AIR. |

Now Batman in the Batmobile would be a great addition to the drags.
Looking foward to the return of circuit racing at AIR in 06 with the AMRS. |

I took it that you were referring to the return of ANDRA Championship drag racing as AIR never stopped holding street drags and other types including import drags. |

Sorry I took so long to reply Storyline Ive been away at the Muscle car masters and the A1 GP.
After I left for NSW I received these dates in my inbox, seems members are the last to find out about anything. COMPETITION EVENTS Sun, November 27th, 2005 Cruizin’ Magazine Nostalgia Drags Sat, December 10th, 2005 Pro Stock Car / Bike Feature Sun, January 21st, 2006 Nitro Funny Cars Sat Feb 25th / Sun 26th, 2006 2006 Four, Six & Rotary Titles Sat, March 18th, 2006 Supercharged Outlaws From the email I got it seems that after the recent accidents they got their collective fingers out and made "extensive upgrades" which is all that the ANDRA people have wanted for years, why has it taken so long ? Who knows but at least the track is now able to hold championship drag racing. |

I don't know what plans are in place for AIR but at Calder they are looking at moving the drag startline 50-60m further along the straight and going back to using the old Gloweave corner and then the "Staging lanes" as a part of the front straight to keep circuit racing off the slippery when wet drag strip. |

Sadly he passed away in July of this year after him and his family were left in a shocking position due to the lack of insurance. I was referring to the 2 recent accidents which from all accounts made those in charge at AIR realize that if they wanted championship drag racing back then they should bring it back with proper and correct safety standards, which is all that ANDRA and its members have wanted all along. As for CP the issue to move the start line will keep the circuit racers happy but I believe the proposed walls (from memory tyre walls wrapped in conveyor matting) are still an issue for ANDRA. The concern is that those type of walls will make the car stick in turning a small accident into a big one unlike the concrete walls which allow the car to glance off with minimal damage, but thats up to them to resolve. I'm just happy that the folks in SA that are interested in championship drag racing once again have the chance to see the fastest and quickest drag racing cars in action. Anyway I suppose we should let this thread return to the topic at hand which was F4000's calendar for the upcoming season |

I have to agree with you there Sultan. They really are great cars to watch - so quick and precise into the corners. If they can get around 15 cars for the start of next season it will get a bit of support.

Anything can be made to fit, it's just who much it will cost. I'd say that one of those engine is possibly of the same value as the whole of the current F4000 field.

Actually its on a website for $7,500US... (ex-Ferrari 348) which by my thinking is cheaper than the Holden motor....
Would sound nice, which the Holden motor doesnt |

And probably more reliable than the Holden motors. I notice that things have gone very quiet on the F4000 front though!

But you have hit the nail on the head, in that one of the reasons that F4K lost popularity was that they sounded like they where powered by a rasp. If they had a nicer sounding engine in the back of them, more people may have been interested in watching them. |

V8SA wouldn't allow it - after all, didn't they invent 5 litre racing?

Maybe they should go to the 6L being used in the road cars now?
