Old Porsche 911 rallycross car value
Hello!
I got a tip of a forgotten, old Porsche 911 rallycross car that is coming for sale here in Finland. I am a bit interested in the car and can´t find anything on the internet about the value of such a car. Then I found this interesting page and I hope I could ask here for some advice. The last time the car was in a competition was for about 20 years ago, after that it has only been started up every now and then. I was told that the car is from the middle 70-ties and the engine is a 2.9 and gear box 930. I remember I saw a article in the newspaper about this car in 90-ties and it had then about 500hp. I have been told that vintage-rallycross is hot stuff out in Europe and I would like to invest some money on a car that could increase in value in the future. I don´t have any experience about rallycross-cars before but I think it would be a nice thing own one since I am interested in vintage cars. The fiberglass body is in quite ruff condition, but I guess the engine has more value than the body often on rallycross cars? How much do you think a car of this type could be worth? Greetings from Finland |

Is it a 4WD 911? Any names of drivers who used it?

To be honest
As most rallycross oldies will tell you, a rallycross car isn't really worth a huge amount historically. Most of the Group B cars that were around then were either converted back to rally spec or sold to museums as they were worth more in that configuration. If you have what sounds like it might be a bitza, even if it was an ex Arnesson or Alamaki car it isn't going to add value. Collectors do not know much about rallycross, other than very special cars like Group B or unique stuff. If it is something like an RS or RSR race car that was converted, then that will have value if you have the logbook etc and any stamps, memorabilia. Obviously it's an old 911, so will have value, especially in rolling stock. But the fact it's an old rallycros car, to be honest, unless you can prove ownership I doubt it's going to add any more value than you have already. The parts would be worth more if they are decent, rare or in very good nick. |

Thanks for your answer.
I just tought these cars were some kind of collectors-stuff since you don´t see them around anymore. They said that this car has some very expensive parts installed in the engine that could be worth a quite a bit if sold separately. I don´t have any experience about rallycross cars before, so, how are these to work on/maintain? I guess you have to be some kind of a expert to tune in a Porsche rallycross car... or what? Do they usually have to be worked on all the time or could you drive many races without any bigger adjustments? How usual was compelte engine breakdown back in rallycross days in 80-ties? (sorry for asking, but I don´t know much about rallycross cars) Last edited by Cromwell; 28 Apr 2014 at 12:01. |

I know several of the small names with 2WD 911s as well.
Esa Ekroos, Arto Männistö, Heikki Ylikorpi, Kari Lassila, Juhani Ristilä, Harri Öhman, Pekka Saarenpää, Pekka Kanerva, Jukka Pelttari. Wonder if you rate fourfold Finnish RX Champion Juha Miettinen no real big name, seen he used to race in Finland only... |

I meant, none of the real big names in rallycross has driven it that I know of.
Yes, those names you mentioned was quite well-known Porsche drivers here in Finland. Juha Miettinen with his Bee Gee Jeans Porsche was a legend. But this Porsche that is for sale, I don´t know who has driven it from the beginning. Would have to check on that with some of the former owners to be sure. |

I noticed now when I searched around that also Matti Alamäkis ex-Porsche 930 RSR 4wd 3.3. twinspark, twin turbo from 1985 is for sale on the net.
The car is in Finland and the price is 59.000 euros. |

Well thats a fairly bold claim suggesting it might have been an ex Matti car, if its red, its been for sale for years!
But in all honesty if you dont know its history, its hard to value. And as I said I doubt rallycross history would add value to any existing value. |

There really are likely not many in existence
If you had any sense when you built it you would have kept the original parrts as if ti was an RSR or used an RSR engine as most of them did, the motor would be wrth a lot of money THe car could be anything unless it has documentation. IN the pics it looked fairly tatty? |

Yes, it looked a bit tatty in the pic.
I don´t think there was any documentation with this car. I heard a rumor that this car was from the beginning a old 912 that was converted into a 911 rallycross car... Was this somthing that was done to many rallycross Porsches? Last edited by Cromwell; 17 Mar 2015 at 12:49. |

Strange enough I have never seen or heard about this car or about its driver.
Name on window reads Norrgård to me and sounds very Norwegian, rather than Finnish... |

Maybe it was an old Bakkelopp car or hill car, they woudl have been popular back then. |

Car looks remarkably good and almost exactly as Mauno Jokinen drove it in the late 80's

I correct my translation about the Engine:
It is a "half way done" conversion into a twinturbo. |
