Antonelli and Rafa Camara look like the real deal, the dominant forces in karting and looking immense in cars too.

Forty eight years ago this weekend, I went to my first race meeting at Thruxton. Top billing went to the thunderous, fire breathing European Formula 5000 championship. Fastest lap shared by Derek Bell and Teddy Pilette at an average speed of 117.8mph was 1:12.0. Today at Thruxton, as part of the TOCA package, the fastest lap set by the British Formula Four contender Alexander Dunne in a single seater considered the first rung on the single seater ladder was 1:10.848. Progress eh!
