TBA China on April 13 would logically be as a support race to A1GP in Shanghai that weekend, as Zhuhai in December is also A1GP support.

Shanghai would be an expansion into China for this series, also potentially very good for them.

Asian F3 seems to be doing very well these days and growing from a Philippine based series to truely pan Asian with teams based at Zhuhai and also racing in India. Hopefully increased media attention, Chinese and Indian drivers for fans to support, and TV coverage will follow.

Only a week before the 1st race there are only four drivers confirmed

I hope that F1 test will happen unlike the Macau entry for Asian Pacific champion...

I am sure you'll get some usual suspects from the Philippines and Indonesia who will fill out the field who have not bothered to put out a press release.

It is certainly getting very cosmopolitan. I remember when the only real international driver was Christian Jones, who somehow managed to squeeze himself into a F3 car.

Announced so far on the series web site:

Gonzales, Mexican, from Latin American F. Renault
Vervisch, from German F3
Howson, from British F. BMW
Suzuki, Brazilian, from Karting
Al Fardan, Bahrain, from British F3
Julian, not sure nationality or from what series
Kato, from F. Renault
PTRS racing have claimed a third entry but third driver announced yet.

Not a single East Asian driver announced yet, which is surprising.

Jim Kato is a Hong Kong Chinese driver, whom I'd consider an East Asian.

BTW, 11 is about the same number you get for Formula Renault V6 Asia. It is not easy for formula racing to attract drivers over here, which is why I am surprised they are so optimistic about GP2 Asia.

Asian F3 has had more than 11 entries before. In 2006 they were up to about 15/16 I think.

GP2 is looking more and more like a European series (in terms of teams and drivers) that just happens to be racing on Asian circuits. Or at least Europe + Meritus.

Great to see Matt Howson back in a seat. He's a quality driver, I expected him to be on the front row but I suppose he's been out of racing for a while so it's still a good result.

Al Fardan wins first race after pushing Vervisch into a spin in the first lap. Vervisch, after stalling his engine, finished in second place on Al Fardan's tail.
