Italian Formula 2

The "Formula 2" series which was being set up in Italy has been cancelled for this year, a friend told me.

Autosprint reported last month that the series, for the old F3000 Lola T96/50 chassis, will not start this year, but there may be one or two winter races.

Apparently there have been problems with the Cosworth Mader engines fitted to the chassis, and electrical problems, and that the series may use Zytek-Judd engines instead.

So it looks as though the series will only start in 2003 if it ever does.

F3000 team Coloni was going to enter Italian F2, with Euro 3000 team Sighinolfi and Vincenzo Sospiri's Super Nova-linked EuroNova squad also linked to the series.

The official website has disappeared.

I posted this as I remember someone asking about the series, but I couldn't find the original post.

I talked to one of the teams about it. They said they were still waiting on more info, but had the old Italian F3000 Lola's, so they'd run it. It's funny, but I'm actually on that one web-site under silly season. How? Who knows. And, that's not even the team I talked with....

Hi Fiorentina, which driver are you, and what team DID you talk with (unless you want to remain anonymous)? I can change the info, I'd like to be accurate.

I got all my information from various sources, I didn't make it up, I promise Most of the rumoured entries were in fact sent to me at the time from the people at the official website (now gone), but maybe otherwise from Prorace (also now gone I think).

The old Italian F2 silly season page:

at Unofficial F3000 (finally being updated):

Thanks!
