B-TEC Development Series News & Rumors 2016
Interesting new series - they run the old spec BTCC cars as preperation for young drivers. Rob Austin Racing will run both Audi A4 in the new series.

Where's porsche962fan with a list? Good idea, it gives the teams income from what they thought was obsolete equipment.

I wonder if there is any option for a class for the S2000 cars and the NGTC engined S2000 cars.

What is B-TEC an acronym for?
Bit of a stretch calling it a 'development series' as there's no link to TOCA or anything else else BTCC. Still, a good use of otherwise obsolete equipment and a chance for teams to recover a bit more of their investment. |

So no-one else thinks that BMR could expand their empire by running at least 2 of their Passats here?

The Vauxhall's weren't NGTC they were S2000 with TOCA engines so wouldn't be eligible. The old Neate Cruze is still being raced by PMR, it went from Neate to Laser Tools & then on to PMR.
I do think that unless someone buys them all for BTCC we'll see BMR running some CC's possibly with Ashley Sutton behind the wheel! Interesting to see the Scott was involved with H and Richard Austin in setting this up. I can see both a 888 & BMR development team. Who knows we may even see ES Racing & Mr James join the party ' AV' IT' |

The Thorney Vauxhalls were NGTC....
Remember the shells with cages will probably still exist, so there's the two Insignias, the Toyota Power Maxed bought, the Cruze hatchback, possibly four VWs, possibly three MGs, the two Protons, the ex Wrathall / Morgan / Wood Toyota, the Audis and probably more Toyota shells out there. |

Looking forward to this, which cars would we say are currently out of the BTCC that would be eligable?
2 x RAR Audi A4 2 x Welch Proton Persona 4 x BMR VW CC 2 x BMR/Hard/Thorney Vauxhall Insignia 1 x Quantel BiFold MG 6GT 1 x Infiniti SOPR Infiniti Q50 2 x Eurotech Honda Civic 1 x JWTP/Houseman Toyota Avensis Assuming none of them have been cannibalised like the ex UA Avensis for the one PMR Chevy and the Cruze hatch for the other PMR Cruze, or just been scrapped. Looking forward to seeing the drivers in this, would be good if it acted like the old Group N championship's in bringing through future BTCC stars. Maybe someone like Jake Hill or Dave Newsham who seemingly don't have the budget for a full BTCC season? Or folk with a bit of money but who can't commit to a full BTCC campaign, like Andy Neate? I know Scottish BMW Compact Cup champ' Steven Dailly was keen to fill in for Hunter Abbott at Knockhill, perhaps people like him who've had a great deal of success at a lower level? They better have a round at Knockhill lined up...the Junior Saloon Car Championship and SuperTCC are both debuting this year, so this would top the lot. This is fun! |

Hmm.... not sure I see the point.
Since its limited to GPRM-running gear, chassis availability will be rather low and that's assuming that all cars built to the rules will find their way into this series. They even admit as much when they say that they only expect around 12 cars. Will they run on their own or will they have to share the grid with other series? IIRC conventional wisdom has it that you need around an 18 car field to get anywhere near covering your track rental fees in most club racing series, else your competitors need to pay more for their tracktime than they would in comparable series. And then, there's the elephant in the room: TCR - I see very little point in picking this over TCR, a class that seems to be positively exploding in the Benelux and Germany right now and with similar, perhaps even lower running costs. |

It's good that there is a place for old touring cars to race rather than simply mouldering in a garage somewhere, but this looks like a club-level series with a spangly development frock. I'd rather see a TCR series established to feed into the BTCC, but perhaps they would be too close in concept.

I like the idea but not sure older NGTC cars are the right choice.
Something like VW Cup technical rules would be more logical. |

A few more details from Motorsport News:
- GPRM components only - Swindon engine only (310bhp. Don't know if that's the same spec as used in BTCC) - Single set of gear ratios for all rounds - Dunlop tyres (again, doesn't say if that same compound as BTCC) - max 12 tyres per round, 8x new + 4x carried over from previous round - 40-min practice + 30-min qualifying on Sat, 2x 30-min races on Sunday - TV coverage at minimum 2 rounds |
