Shame... I know Marlboro is its original livery but the car spent most of its competition life in Blue Coral colours and that was simply one of the best liveries ever.

Agreed, the Blue Coral livery was iconic to everyone who watched British GT in the 90's. I grew up forever wanting that car to win versus the Lister Storms.

It's worse now because it's not even really a full Marlboro livery, still lacking all the sponsor logos it would've worn whilst racing. Looks a bit half-arsed at the minute, though I suppose it's likely it's only just been repainted.

Silverstone Classic then, aside from the vast quantity of F1 GTR's, what else ran?

I'm sure I heard one of the Ferrari's and Porsche's crashed into each other yesterday bringing out a red flag.

erm yes, a bit stupid really, on the entrance to beckets the Ferrari went for the inside, Porsche turned in to take his line and bang....not much damage thankfully, Ferrari should have waited until hangar straight, its only a demo afterall!

Not a 575 GTC?

I was there on Saturday, and while it was wonderful to see some of these cars again, the rather slow and meaningless demonstration runs (particularly from whoever 'drove' the Marcos LM600) meant this era really wasn't well represented. I hope they put on a race for these cars next year instead of a demo run, might entice a few more people out.

One of the commentators on Sunday said the organisers were doing the demonstration runs this year, with the plan to run a race for them next year.

I was there on Friday and Saturday. On the Friday the session was red flagged after only about 5 minutes after one of the XJ220s caught fire, and on Saturday the session ran but was again ever so slightly curtailed as the everything was delayed due to an earlier accident in the Masters F1 race.

Great to see the cars again, even if they were being driven rather too slowly - the pre-1961 GP cars were driven faster through Club than pretty much any of the downforce carrying GTs!

Was fantastic to see and hear the EMKA McLaren again, it looked and sounded superb, took me right back to when I used to follow it around the country watching the Privilege GTs.

By the looks of things the XJ220 that caught fire isn't even one of the racers, just one of Don Law's project cars.

The Porsche GT1 was glorious just seemed so elegant, seemed like it could do another 24 hours with no issue.

The Lark McLaren the one that raced in the JGTC (and won it!) in 1996 is that also road legal as it has a number plate of "M1 GTR"?

I believe that particular road converted car is actually the sister car to the championship winning car. Those Lark cars are beautiful as is the longtail they raced outside of Japan.

few racing f1 gtr were converted to street models (renamed f1 LM), but as far I know, none racing f1 gtr longtail was converted, also because the street longtail was an extreme limited production, less than 20.

Awesome. Seeing as they got so many models there (even if it's just for display) it proves that there are enough people willing to run these cars and not keep them collecting dust in showrooms. They need to get these beauties to the LM Legends race now, Group C and 49-65 can go hiding for a year... or two... or decade...

The old argument is that the grid would be extremely thin, as kinda also proved by SRO's few attempts at Revival Series, but when you'd got the opportunity to race as the curtain raiser for the biggest motor race on Earth I'm sure you'd get good number of cars. Even if it was just couple of GT1 911s and F1s and GT2/GTS Vipers etc at the front followed by armada of GT3/GT Porsches I'd be happy

Sarthe deserves to see real powerful GT cars again after few year hiatus

F1 LM was a limited production of 5 with 1 prototype (chassis XP1LM) and were a road going version of the 1995 F1 GTR. The F1 GT the 1997 F1 GTR Longtail was homologated from was an even more limited production run, iirc only 3 were built (might actually be 2).

No road converted F1 GTR was renamed to F1 LM, that's BS. Most F1 GTRs converted to road use have been repainted papaya orange to give the F1 LM look however. No Longtails have been road converted, seems to be a tougher task to modify them.

I knew that f1 LM were street converted racing cars, but anyway you may be right and I could be wrong... for sure

If it's the white/blue 'ERG' car, then I think it might have history in the Italian GT series (Paolo Cutrera, 1993 ). Can't find a 'period' pic, but this is it at Silverstone...

http://tentenths.com/forum/attachmen...5&d=1406814059

Does Don Law have a 'Martini'-liveried 220 as well? I think that might be another ex-Italian car (Gianni Giudici's name comes to mind)

Apparently a long-tail has been converted, I believe this is an ex-JGTC machine? Or am I associating that livery with JGTC by mistake?

https://www.flickr.com/photos/si558/14757217921/

EDIT: Okay, fairly sure I'm wrong about the JGTC stuff.

Had to ask the F1 guru himself Erik Reynolds, this is what he had to say about that car:
Quote:
Yes, and passes its MOT but there is no intention to actually drive it on the road.

It would need to have the suspension changed to make that feasible.
I generally follow the GT side of McLaren but haven't kept up on the Longtails (never been a fan of them).

If I had enough money, I'd build my personal f1 long tail replica! external parts of the car would be like the original car, but inside it would be like a modern supercar... all kind of modern devices and for the engine, I'd use the AMG 6.0-7.3 V12 or the 6.2 V8 of the SLS
