Lee Janotta should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Galmer chassis designer?

I'm just wondering if anyone remembers who designed the Galmer chassis that Al Unser Jr. and Danny Sullivan campaigned for Galles in 1992? The car had a really radical front wing, and ran great on the road and street courses.

It was also one of the years that the Truesports car was pretty good... Quite ahead of it's time, it had the aerodynamic look of the Reynards which would follow in the mid-90s. Considerably lower and sleeker than the other cars on the time.

Ah, silly me, they just had an interview with the designer during the race I'm watching (Long Beach '92).

Alan Mertens. Hmm... I've never heard his name tossed about as a designer for anything else. Anyone got a clue what else he's worked on?

If they'd carried on with it after 1992 it could have been a very competitive chassis. Galles giving up on it after 1992 was one of the reasons for Al Jr going to Penske.
