Toyota look alarming off the pace. Not as bad as last year ofcourse, but not good.

Do Ford think the cars will run reliably until the end of the race? I'm certain those cars will blitz the GTE Pro field if they do a real qualifying run. We know they are quick, but will they get to the finish?

Can further BoP changes be made based on today's performances? Or are teams able to go as fast as they want without fear of BoP changes?

From what I've read changes can be made in every moment. Even after qualifying. And if a car is significantly faster than the performance window a penalty can be applied during the race.

So far there is no need, they are all very close in terms of lap time over this long circuit. Obviously everyone is sandbagging equally as well. I'm so wise. #43 |

I get the feeling that all of the GTE teams are currently just running a pace and hitting a number. Either that or they actually are balanced very closely but I tend to think they are just running a pace.

You have to ask yourself, why would they do anything else? If I was a team manager, I wouldn't be going for top times....

The official name is Journée test
Best ideal lap from last year was by Porsche #19 : 3.20.285 and the best for Audi was 3.21.6. Today, the best ideal lap was from the #8 : 3.21.149 but the Porsches are not far behind(0.25s). But Audi tends to hide their pace more on such events and quite possibly they will embarrass the rivals on race pace, methinks. Well, at least Porsche and Toyota can still have high hopes to win through reliability. Toyota won't have the tyre fluke here and now they will be shown up. They are slower than Audi on speed trap and still much more slower on S3(Porsche curves). Embarrassing really, TS050 aero is quite poor(not that I expected any different). Jesus, they are even slower than Rebellion through S1..... |

It is still a very open race, reliability will come into it and i think that toyota have more to give, Audi are also still capable of better and porsche perhaps still favourite, but what the hell it will be one hell of a race in 2 weeks and i will be there to watch it

Yep, to be honest, I'm not reading much into these times at all. They're all far too canny to show us what they're really capable of.

That's true, and that concept is nothing new to Le Mans over the decades. Just makes me wonder what the purpose or usefulness of the test is. hrug: the years with no test seemed to be just fine come race week.

It's useful for the teams, but not the spectators.
With the amount of testing the LMP1 factory teams do nowadays I guess that it is not a requirement for them, but they shall get some useful set-up and driver (re-)familiarisation as well as getting an opportunity to experience an unlikely Le Mans specific issue. The other classes I suspect it is more useful. Especially in the teams where there are lots of new drivers and/or untested components and cars. Teams like Manor will also appreciate the opportunity to get the lay of the land including pits, paddock and access. |
