French civil servants ‘day of action’ tomorrow, Gerard! Plus air traffic control.....

So far I’ve managed to discover that Calais will not be operating for some of the day, but not sure about other ports. More concerned about next two weeks, if you hear any rumours!

Funnily enough the wind changed direction later in the day and by 4 o'clock the 3 bikes that had signed on had a dry line.
Star of the show was a young lady who'd just had her 14th birthday and rode her KTM RC390 like a pro.

As MGDavid said the morning car session was an open pitlane with 5 single seaters (4 FF1600's & a Delta FF2000) sharing with 2 Midgets - 1 that went bang very early on & of course MG David in his modified, a Mk1 MX5, a CSCC Lotus and the fastest on track by quite a long way Sierra XR4I.

Sorry Gerard - I love it! Especially on Alfa Giuliettas. It's so evocative of the era, just like the BL colour "Teal Blue".

No worry, Alan, as Midget says "tous les goûts sont dans la nature!".
Day of action actually means you're bothered by people who dont do much on their spot! Who's pulling the strings one would like to wonder.
When I read the trailer registration thread my deduction is whatever the side of the Channel, the same kind of Bozos is putting a large mess!

Compared with the home produced cars Rootes Group were selling, they certainly were!

Wish me luck for Sunday - my first ever Tarmac rally. I have entered the Cetus Stages rally at 3 Sisters near Wigan. Not rallied before, only driven the Escort for a few miles around Curborough sprint track, and a co-driver i have never met!
What could possibly go wrong??!!

Wasn't the Valiant imported & sold when the Humber Super Snipe went out of production?

Yes. The Valiant Estate was a good replacement for the Hawk and Snipe Wagons. Not sure how well the saloon sold, and the Charger didn’t really replace anything. Always appealed in a ‘muscle car’ sort of way.....

EB- how much are the Aus $50 notes with the missing ‘i’ going for?

Back in the day a mate of mine had a Humber Super Snipe. He chipped a tooth off the crown wheel doing an autotest in it! OK, the autotest was held on a gravel car park, but i was nowhere near as nimble as the Lotus Seven that won!

I’m pretty sure Humber built a prototype V8 Super Snipe or Imperial, which would have been a bit of a bruiser.... Found it- https://www.alternatehistory.com/for...essful.419914/

I’ve always admired the Daimler Majestic Major, which looked very ‘majestic’, but was quicker than the Jag saloons of the time. Needless to say it disappeared from sale after Jaguar took them over!

Not surprised it was quicker with a 4.5l V8 under the bonnet.

Not just a V8, but an Edward Turner designed, hemi V8! Big version of the SP250 engine, and very highly regarded.....

The Rootes Group did a few 'interesting' prototypes back in the 60's. I seem to remember them building a few well regarded V8 engined Humber Sceptres along the lines of the Sunbeam Tiger, but sadly they didn't reach production.

Sounds very nice! Which body shape Sceptre? Triumph tried the Stag V8 in the 2000 / 2.5 PI body, which I don’t think was that difficult to do. A Stag engined Estate would definitely be interesting. Few years ago there was a Rover V8 engined one for sale, which was nice but not quite the right PU in my opinion....

Good luck, certainly - I've done a few stages at 3 Sisters as part of a multi-venue rally.......its small and pretty narrow, and I'd have thought the scope for a co-driver to get things wrong there would be limited......

Last time I was there on track we were doing a shake-down test on the 75 and had some brake balance issues meaning the first time I hit the brakes hard it swapped ends........so there's one thing that could go wrong

I'd come to offer support but I'm a couple of thousand miles away - and in an hour or so I'm off out to watch a stage of the Rally Adeje

Ah the Tiger ! when I worked for Alan Fraser in the early 60s we had one of the first Tigers in the country, it was a bit "hush hush" at the time and the guys in the comp dept used to give it a thrash up the road to impress us "nippers"
