F1 is going to die out soon it's to boring

F1 has been getting more and more boring year on year since the death of King Senna. Now every thing has to be super safe and the tracks are butched until nobody can overtake. All the cars are to fragile and 1 little touch and there out of the race with broken suspension or a swing arm its aload of bow tox
Back int the Senna Prost era tracks and the cars were alot less safe and there where less deaths F1 is supposed to be dangerous thats the thrill of it

I disagree. There have been some good races this year. Yes the Bridgestone-Ferrari has been dominant but there have been good scraps between other drivers and teams. Evey the new track in Germany still has hope. After all it was the first time there. The USGP was thought to be a boring track in its first year yet last year it had some of the best racing all season. Drivers should not have to put their lives on the line for racing to be fun.

Ah how can I bash MS... lets see... I hate red!!

<warning anti-montoya fans- I'm about to criticize someone who drives a red car, and it isn't Barrichello. Take a deep breath or close your eyes >

F1 will always be dangerous, it's a matter of finding a balance though, and they've got to find an alternative to chicanes.

There, that wasn't so bad, was it?

I have one F1 hero and I support him. I am a fan not a anti-fan. And as long as my favourite driver is wining there is no need for me becoming an anti-something.

I guess all of us have a terrible feeling where this thread is leading. Look at all those replies suggesting there is a dark cloud hanging on......

To stay on the topic I will add that the F1 is boring now, no doubt!
Actually in the history of Formula1 there have been few times where the competitive teams have been on same level. For the most of the time one team is been better than the rest, and that has been the trend those last couple of decades. So in a way Formula1 has been boring most of the time.

No I don't have that feeling, Legend.

Why F1's boring? Lack of passing, lack of a championship being battled until the last lap, lack of competitiveness from some teams...

So what's happening with the manufacturer created/supported racing series that's supposed to debut in something like '05 or '07? Just an idle threat or a serious threat (backup plan) in case Bernie starts getting out of hand?

As long as F1 continue to bring in drivers like JP, Kimi, and Massa, those who are willing to take a few risks, I will continue to enjoy the racing, at least a few places back from the front. What goes on at the front of the grid is only exciting as far as wondering who might have to move over for who.

Driver bashing alert! LOL .....funny to see such threads relating to such comment being opened in here at least once a month . Well....what can i say, the 5xWDC is certainly dominating and it definitely looked like the Red cars are gonna wrap the season with a 1-2 WDC titles.

But don't worry....there are zillions of Ferrari fans who won't find it boring to watch the race. Can't wait for the 03 season and i really do hope the other teams at least try to give the 5xWDC a good challenge..though i doubt it

F1 will never die because it's F1.... But that doesn't mean you have to waste your hard earned money on it!

This year has been really poor for me, but IMO F1 won't die, the market is just TOO big.

Man and machine

The boredom that exist in the Formula1 those days could be explained by Giancarlo Minardi’s wise words: "The car is without a doubt extraordinary, but the driver is an artist."
Those two facts combined are the essence of the superiority which seems to have doomed the racing aspect of the Formula1: An extraordinary car at the hand of an artist!

Please read this nice article to see what I mean.

Superiority hasn't doomed F1. Even in 1998-2000, when there was a battle for the title, how many passes we would see? Mika on Schumi at Spa.. emmm... let me think... anyone else?

The problem is overtaking, whether Schumacher dominates or doesn't dominate.

There has been no problems in overtakings. Schumi has overtaken many times this year.

There has to be a stats guru out there somewhere who can answer this: How many passes for let's say a points position have occurred this year as opposed to say 1993?

I am getting the feeling here that depending on what era we first got hooked on F1, that is the era that is viewed as the "golden age" by the poster and all else is inferior. Taking nothing away from Senna/Prost et al, was it any more (or less?) competitive in '93 than '83, '73, '63 ( you get the picture!)?

actually JohnSSC, I got hooked in 1993 and I don't see my era and these years as the "golden age"...

And Legend, no, Schumacher hasn't overtaken that much. Let's see. Montoya in Australia, Sepang, and then... hmmm, let me think... Is Austria-finish line counted as an overtaking maneuver?

I would suggest you rephrase your question to

"How many overtaking manoeuvres DID TGF actually have to made this season, Legend?"

in view of his Ferrari being almost always in the first two rows.

Anyway, since I had time, I decided to do a ROUGH count...
(Venue, Qualified, Final, MINIMUM passes REQUIRED to accomplish Final result)

Australia, 2nd, 1st, 1.
Malaysia, 1st, 3rd, 18 (Had to replace F2002 nose and restarted from 21st)
Brazil, 2nd, 1st, 1.
San Marino, 1st, 1st, 0.
Spain, 1st, 1st, 0.
Austria, 3rd, 1st, 1 (The one against RB removed)
Monaco, 3rd, 2nd, 1.
Canada, 2nd, 1st, 1.
Nurburgring, 3rd, 2nd, 1.
Britain, 3rd, 1st, 2.
France, 2nd, 1st, 1.
Germany, 1st, 1st, 0.
Hungary, 2nd, 2nd, 0.

Not a lot of passes, I admit. And some ain't even overtaking ontrack too, but to claim that he doesn't overtake, what's that word again? Ingenious...
