GPS taxing? That's ridiculous! Fuel taxes are cheaper than that.

Probably be a lot less hassle if they just put fuel up a couple of cents. Part of the problem is they have now set up this ecotax collection infrastucture |

So they fix the GPS tax with higher fuel taxes... makes sense.

The 2-cents tax hike on diesel in January is more to do with deficits than eco nonsense. I don't drive an HGV and rarely use autoroutes but I do have a diesel car, like most people here. At the moment diesel is around 1.27 euros/litre locally so even with another two cents it will still be rather cheaper than England.
...and of course this is still a much nicer place to be! |

FRANCE-ECOTAX SUSPENDED
Notwithstanding recent emails to the contrary, the French government announced yesterday that the ECOTAX introduction has been postponed until further notice. The haulier protests scheduled for 13 October have been called off. I suspect that's the end of that! |

I eventually got same confirmation about two weeks after you, Colin!
Now I hear that due to EU requirement for low sulphur fuel to be used on ferries from next year, an additional levy of circa £14 - £16 (for big truck) will have to be added to each crossing? Suggestion that it is just North Sea and Channel crossings- no mention of Spanish routes...... |

Although we don't now have to pay the French Eco tax, we find ourselves paying les continentales a surcharge on all their invoices so that they can pay the new British road user levy! As it all filters down to the consumer who pays in the end, I wonder why we bothered

I've not seen cost of the OBU and fitting (and if has to be at a credited agent), or if a bond will have to be paid up front to cover default on future payments..... No doubt other countries will adopt a similar but independent system, so trucks will likely finish up with a row of the darn things across the windscreen! |
