HSCC Historic Formula Ford news and 2020 race dates.

One of the best UK Racing Series in Historic racing and we are pretty busy & friendly too...!

Historic Formula Ford 1600cc Kent engined Race Championship for pre-1972 cars in period spec.
Call by for a cuppa and a chat - if we're not too busy having fun... Below is our 2020 Race Dates.
A sensible 8-meeting cracking calendar is on the cards and we'll be joining our Classic FF Boys on occasions with an evening party or two.

Organised by also supported by Avon Tyres. Sometimes two thirds of our grids are involved in our Over50 Championship promoted by 1960's music icon Radio Caroline.

We welcome any other companies who would like to sponsor and enjoy our events with us on a race-day basis. It helps pay for our Paddock Hospitality Unit.

Our website is a little dated in parts but is at www.HistoricFF.co.uk for cars for sale or wanted, required driving standards, reports and of course our official HFF videos courtesy of Josh Barratt Film Enterprises. Look in on the HSCC website in our HFF Championship Section for latest race reports too.

[B]Look in on our races on line (HSCC live commentary) or (link above, click 'videos' then 'HFF Videos') we are a busy bunch and can be rather exciting at times....
We welcome anyone with the right attitude to fun and competitive racing.

Carless Racing Fuel with their 102 octane Motorsport UK - legal HFF fuel will be available from the Vital Equipment Stand at all meetings in the Paddock or can be delivered. See their website.

‘Radio Caroline’ advertising support is on-line for 2020 too, their 45-second jingles 10 times a day help push our series and our sponsors name to about 5 million people; a symbiotic relationship between our two 1960’s iconic creations.

An explanation for those new to ‘A’ & ‘B’ Formatting…. Subject to race meeting programming, at some meetings there may be the opportunity to continue our 'come one - come all' racing format where we will not have any reserves (dependent on circuit grid numbers). There will be two qualifying sessions where the top half of each will qualify for race 2 ‘A’ group and the lower ‘B’ group are in race 1.
Top finishers in race 1 then go to the rear of race 2 subject to grid space.
It works well makes life interesting and like abilities race together.

Great intro Dikko and very thorough, thanks. Looking forward to 2020 already, pretty sure I bumped in to you at Coppice earlier in the year I think you were looking for coppice of this domain and I did make it to Anglesy earlier in the year, great circuit and a good weekend. Pity that Cadwell's moved, always loved this meeting in June. I need to make it to Pembrey next year, the sole remaining circuit in mainland UK that I've not been to, look forward to seeing you there. Simply the best racing on the planet IMHO.

Yep, twas me. Regards to you. If we have our hospitality with us at Pembrey DO call in for bite & a drink. There'll be a welcome in the hillsides.. Apparently they've spent some money on the place since we were there last and it should be a good weekend. Nice at The Gower nearby too.

Hi Dikko - sad that no Croft but wild horses won't keep me away from Cadwell , and Oulton and Brands appeal too . I trust we will see a return to recent form when it comes to grid sizes - bit thin last year compared to 2017/18 ?

Yep Coppice/John.
Grids in their 25's +/- was not our normal attendance from when you say. We were a leetle stretched in our calendar this year... races 2 weeks apart are not our bag. Especially for folk who have to go to work.! Better dates for 2020.

Book your Sausage at Cadwell...and we may play a little cricket against the Classic FF boys and could be in need of an umpire???

Is cricket the one where you hit the ball with a stick -or is that squash ? You need to know that I spent games afternoons smoking Park Drive and drinking Guinness while discussing Keats with my equally pretentious friends ....

New Title Sponsor for 2020

I am pleased to announce that Classic Race Simulators, the Farnborough Company making bespoke Race Car Simulators have taken over from Vital Equipment/Carless Race Fuels as the title sponsor for our 2020 16-round Championship this season.
In addition, Classic Race Simulators will have a presence in the paddock at every meeting, offering drivers the opportunity to gain additional practice and have fun between sessions.

Classic Race Simulators’ Managing Director, Jim Hill: “Classic race cars are our passion so to become involved in such a prestigious UK championship is a pleasure.
We look forward to supporting the drivers with “state of the art” simulation
equipment in the paddock to improve both safety and enjoyment on track."
About Classic Race Simulators: they say,
“Based in Farnborough, just an hour from central London, we have combined the love of classic race cars with our race simulation knowledge to produce beautiful simulators since 2013.
From a Cockpit to a full-size race car or kart we can build a bespoke tribute simulator from scratch or adapt a current design using our experienced craftsmen. We will share our knowledge to steer you around the
choices and supply and fit all systems, so they work together on installation.”
Free Practice!! A new innovation in our area of the paddock will be some ‘Historic’
Simulators free to use by drivers courtesy of our new sponsor and, I’m told “They have motion, force feedback, wind simulation (!?) and are equipped with “state of the art” Virtual Reality equipment. One of the sims has been custom built for a UK classic racer who wants to practice the circuits in advance of races” so they may be dialed in to each meeting’s circuit. Bit of fun eh? Free to us, the facilities are for hire to anyone with sponsors and guests to impress.

Making history (again)…. Website bookings are open for our first race of the season;
it’s a revival of the first Formula Ford Fest in 1972 when our cars were still pretty new and we’re still proving a lasting formula...

To celebrate we’re still going strong, classes of Classic, Heritage, and the newer ‘Champion of Brands’ Formula Fords will join us in the paddock. Our ‘elder Ford-engined brothers’ - Formula Junior – will also be there to complete the scene of 48 years ago. I’ve been told that Snetterton marshals are really looking forward to seeing us.

HSCC Blurb…’The weekend will honour the life of racer and race school pioneer Jim Russell, who died in March 2019, as well as featuring 10 Formula Ford races to mark the early heritage of the Formula Ford Festival. Before moving to Brands Hatch in 1976, the first four Festivals were run at Snetterton from 1972 to 1975’.

4 - 5 Apr HSCC HFF, CFF & Heritage FF. Snetterton 300 circuit. 38 cars per
grid. HFF ‘A’ race format single race on both days plus possible race
for Formula Ford Champion of Snetterton Race. Party, live band we hope,
etc.

And that's where it all ended, since then all cars no doubt have been fiddled on, gardens mowed, sheds painted etc etc.

I hope we may be able to get out this year, with luck and a LOT of care from all it might happen - no news in that direction just yet.

I have started planning a calendar for 2021 and wonder what the appetite will be.
Do we want to fill our boots with a big programme, will we all have a budget? Maybe OK for many of our 'mature' drivers but what effect on the youngsters?

Best guess would be a de-tuned version of this year's events and suck and see.

As soon as I know we are allowed out I'll let all know.

Keep well, heads down and see all at some point. Dick D HFF

sent out today...

Update for HFF Drivers.
Following Government directives, on May 13 at an HSCC Board meeting on our Corona Virus actions it was felt there may be an opportunity to go racing.
It can only happen subject to the circuit’s ability to satisfy MotorsportUK’s virus anti-transmitting guidance criteria. These cover marshals, officials and many other considerations for a safe infrastructure to gain a racing permit.
And you of course…
The office has increased its computer abilities for online entries and would like your commitment to gauge grid numbers and event feasibility. Starting with a possible race at The Brands Legends SuperPrix in July. ALL 2020 race entries are now open.
A lot of thought and action by the club has been put in place as far as social distancing is concerned and these will be fully reported in the next HSCC Magazine.

Those 2/3 of you in our over 50’s Championship may have an opinion and I hope you will help the HSCC to decide on the way forward by either entering or not – as you see fit.
It is obvious that our younger contingent will be raring to go (if I was – I would) but for the majority, the decision lays in your hands.
Full renumeration of entries will be made if events are cancelled and no money will be taken until each event cut-off date. Please book the events you wish to do.
It is not clear at this stage whether our invitation race at Ireland’s Mondello Park will go ahead and it is believed the main F5000 race (now without 15 cars from Aus & NZ) will not happen.
11-12 July HFF & CFF HSCC Legends of Brands Hatch SuperPrix (GP Circuit) HFF 38 car-grid ‘A’ race format single race on both days. CFF; 2 Races over 2 days. BIG F5000 meeting. Gorgeous Brands at its best.
15th - 16th August. Ireland's Mondello Park. HFF Non-Championship ‘away race’ Invitation at their Historic Race Meeting. ‘A’ race format single race on both days. Subject to confirmation and entry numbers. We hope discounted Ferry fees may be available, watch out for announcements (see also https://www.mondellopark.ie/ ), 3-4 other HSCC Formulas are considering attending this west of Dublin venue.
29 - 31 Aug HSCC HFF & CFF Oulton Park Gold Cup. HFF Two ‘A’ race format + Qualifying over 3 days. 38 cars per grid. CFF; 2 races + Q on BH Monday. BIG Northern Classic Car Event. Beautiful Parkland setting.
19 - 20 Sept HSCC HFF & CFF Cadwell Park. HFF A & B format on both days (subject to entries) 30 per grid. CFF; 2 Races over 2 days. Lincolnshire’s exciting and challenging ‘Mini-Nürburgring’ parkland venue.
24 - 25 Oct HFF & CFF. The BRSCC Formula Ford Festival Brands Indy – Our ‘Finals’. 30 car grid. One race each day. CFF; 2 Races over 2 days. We join with the world’s best FF drivers and show them and UK’s Formula Ford enthusiasts just how good we are.
In most cases at each meeting there is an allowance of 20% additional reserve entries in qualifying, entry fees returned (less £25) for non-starters.
Subject to each Championship Regs & entries; all HFF entrants are eligible to enter CFF & Heritage rounds.

Understandably, our HFF Paddock Hospitality will be not attending until 2021.
There will be no Dinner & Dance in November as it is felt that ‘social distancing’ will be a problem on the dance floor and at the bar!
Without knowing the racing climate for the 2021 season the suggestion is that we have five ‘main event’ races and two provisional meeting.

Update for Brands Hatch Legends July 11/12

Closed to spectators I'm afraid, sorry. BUT.......

Racing at the great Grand Prix circuit of Brands Hatch is ON! They & the HSCC have fulfilled all MUK conditions for a permit and we are GO for the SuperPrix Meeting on July 11/12. One change of plan to reduce Covid19 problems is our Races are on Sunday (the same day as Classic FF).

We are a healthy 24 grid with a month to go and we welcome some new drivers to our little (but BEST) Championship series, tin-top racer James Russell is trying his hand with us in a Merlyn, Alan Schmidt in a Crossle with our Speedsport boys and a shock entrant is BTCC driver Shaun Hollamby with his Jamun. We will be explaining OUR rules of racing to Shaun before he goes out! Look out for them and give them all the help you can guys… you were new once…
A welcome return to Simon Jackson and Greg Thornton too.

There will further details being issued from the HSCC, and a lot of paperwork for you to complete. The codicil remains we rely on Government conditions. We continue to await conformation regarding overnight camper stays, but presently the consensus is this will be allowed from the beginning of July.

ALSO!!!!!!!

The Historic Formula Ford Championship Sponsor Classic Race Simulators and HFF have pleasure in announcing their attendance of Brands Hatch GP Circuit simulators at the HSSC Legends SuperPrix on July 11/12th.
Free to all drivers their simulators will be available in the Paddock with all appropriate Covd19 conditions satisfying Brand Hatch’s virus-free Permit controls.
Having graduated with an Honours degree in Microbiology and worked in infection control for many years, MD Jim Hill will have a team there ensuring participants safety and says he is “Really looking forward to my first company sponsorship of a great championship and if I can share our Virtual Driving Experience with the HSCC it will be a pleasure”.
For a full description of their Hi-tec equipment see their website or look out for them in the Paddock.
