Do they, are u sure about that? If u show me some proof I will apoligise but Ive not seen any as of yet, to me they look lots faster thana Formula Ford car.
And the main FPA series look to me to be faster than the Formula 3 cars. |

Just off the top of my head
2002 Snetterton pole times F3 - 1:01.583 Formula Renault - 1:06.423 FPA - 1:08.311 Ford - 1:09.750 So my apologies, FPA fits in between Fords and Renaults. When they were the 300hp version they did about Formula Renault times. FPA cars are relatively heavy (Fords are 495kg, F3s 525, FPA 600ish)) and have a lot of drag by being very large cars with very large wings and wheels, without a lot of downforce. Its more like an overpowered Zetec with a tiny bit of aero assistance. Justin Wilson said the FPA handles almost exactly like the previous generation F3000 car (the one used in the Euro series). Ie even though the F3k has more power, its got an equal increase in grip, traction, braking, etc; so the overall feel is very similar. |

I want some proof of those times, ie links. If u show me evidence not something which u supposedly rememberd off the top of ur head, then I will admit it. Although I personally dont belive it.

I always thought it was a shame interest tailed off in FPA as a professional series, after it produced drivers like Justin Wilson, Bjorn Wirdheim, Darren Turner, Robbie Kerr, Jaroslav Janis, Damien Faulkner, Bruce Jouanny, Giorgio Pantano (in a winter series wasn't he?), etc etc. |

Yeah Pantano in the 99 winter series (won by Paul Edwards) in the Team Brask entry in his first foray into cars

The more I think about this the more im confused. When would Alonso have ever set a 'lap record' at Jerez? They dont race there and I dont immediately recall him topping any test sessions.

I accept that FPA is slower than F3 cars yes, although I accept it grudglingly lol. Maybe in 2003 or 2004 they will have a new powerplant and that will again put them back into the lead power wise compared to F3 cars. I think in 1999 when FPA were first introduced the FPA cars had more power though.
They are like F3000 - due for a engine power boost. |

I'm glad to see Joel Nelson doing well. People who work with him tell me he's something special. I never bought the story some of the 'name' drivers who were given the boot at the Red Bull deal's stories about it being BS. Nelson & Speed doing well next year will prove this. Some of the guys like Giebler, Abbatte & Moran are good, but Pat Long, Joey Hand and others really do suck!

Im still kinda skeptical of this lap record thing though. I wasnt aware Alonso had ever topped times at Jerez, and isnt there some sort of new tire or engine inlet this year giving them more power? I just want to get some more details because there's a lot of holes.
Fio your tune sure has changed from when he couldnt even get on the pace of Michael Galati |
