F1 vs other cars...

Over time, we have seen promotional work that results in direct comparison between F1 cars and road cars...something that Mclaren seemed to have been quite used to...

There was one in which Senna was driving a Mclaren Honda against a road car Honda accord (or civic, i think) around a racetrack (which i cannot remember)

Then, in 97/98, i read in F1-Racing of a DC-driven Mclaren 97 F1 car vs a Mercedes E-class AMG vs a Mercedes A class in Silverstone

I heard of words of a test between a Ferrari F1 car vs a Ferrari road car...but don't seem to have much details found...

But more importantly, recently i was walking past a model shop, and on their tv, a tape of a test was shown. It is a Mclaren Mercedes F1 (2000 model?) vs Mercedes DTM vs two Mercedes road cars (a C-class? can't remember)

Do anybody have more information regarding any of the last 2 comparison tests? Better still, is there any video clips around which showed the last two tests available on the net?

Champ69 should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
I have seen an article on the web regarding coparison tests of a McLaren F1 car, Penske Cart car, DTM car and a c class. I even put it in graphical form and had it on my wall at work. I have since tossed it out.

I will have a look on the web to see if I can find it again, but don't get your hopes up as I have no idea where I found it.

WOW!

We get so used to seeing the F1 cars on the circuit, but you don't realize how quick and how fast they are until you see them eating up a car that we think of as a powerful sedan.

I saw the Ferrari comparison test you mention. I think it was on Motors TV earlier this year (IIRC you have this channel in Britain as well). The test was at Imola and I seem to recall three cars involved : Michael Schumacher in a F1, Barrichello in a 360 Modena and Badoer in an older GT (F355 or older). There was a handicap, the F1 had to do three laps, the 360 one and a half and the F355 (?) one or something like that. MS caught Barrichello just entering the last chicane in the last lap and of course won by... well the length of the pit straight ! That's all I remember about it, and I'm not sure if there is anything available on the net about it...

I have a book in which such a test (at Imola in 1997) is described. It involved a Fiat Brava (130 mph, driven by Nicola Larini), a Ferrari 550 Maranello (220 mph, Eddie Irvine) and F310 (the car from 1996, almost 750 bhp, driven by Michael Schumacher). It was a handicap race, the Fiat got off first, Irvine second after almost 30s and Schumacher third (by that time Irvine was at Tosa, some 1/3 of the length) and Larini at Aque Minerale (half). Irvine caught Larini in last corner, lead for almost 0.5s and Schumacher got past him on the straight and “won” by a fraction of sec.

"Michael Schumacher in a F1, Barrichello in a 360 Modena"

I guess that's the only way to show F1 is faster than a road car... i don't think anyone would like it alot of MS in a 360 outdrives Barrichello in an F1...

But seriously...the more that is said...the more i'm looking for more of these Mpegs...anybody? The only 2 i saw online before is the Mclaren Honda vs road car and a Mclaren 97 vs 2 road car.

The Ferrari one would be great!

At this year's Australian Grand Prix there was a speed comparison on every day.

It was between a BMW/Williams (current car), a Holden V8 Supercar, and a BMW 318i.

It was televised on Saturday and Sunday.

Awesome to see happen.

The V8 Supercar started nearly 45 seconds after the BMW, and the F1 started another 40 seconds later.

It was exciting, especially when they got the cars so close together at the start finish line.

They also did this sort of thing with a BTCC Ford Mondeo Super Tourer, Road-Going Ford Mondeo Zetec-S, and a Ford Fiesta. The Fiesta was first off the blocks, then the Mondeo Zetec-S, then the Touring Car, about 30/40 seconds after the Fiesta. It beat them easy!

on one of jeremy clarkson's videos (head to head) he put's on a "race" between himself in a couger, colin macrae in a rally focus and johnny herbert in a '99 stewart at silverstone.

worth watching just to see macrae coming through the complex totally sideways, fantastic!!

and on another of his vids (the most outrageous ever) he juts a ferrari f40 up against a jordan from '98 just to show the difference in acceleration.

Holy $#@%$&^% OMG!!!! hard to believe. And one of those cars was a Mercedes E55 saloon - that is a monster on the local highways: 0-60mph in 5 seconds, and that F1 car blew by it like it was standing still. jeez, that's a whole different world going on in those F1 cars

Who knows? I think Ferrari bosses just didn't want to watch Barricello overtaking MS even in such conditions
