The Capri or Chevy? If the latter, it's been running them all its life!

Apologies - it is the Mustang that has potentially been excluded due to the brakes

Good to see Ric first Capri, well deserved imo. Still the Golf is amazing. I guess the Jägermeister Escort is Mike's former car, right? Thanks again tortoise!

Had a great w/e at Goodwood , great mini races.
Gerry Marshall race always our favourite (group 1 or 1.5 ?) faberge' capri eng built with roller rockers by the man to go to for capri engines ?? standard rockers sent out at last minute to most other customers ???? Back of the grid penalty. Yank tank with group 2 brakes ? another back of grid penalty. These now all seem to be built to Group Goodwood ?? although the racing / driving standards were much much better for this meeting, may be lack of BTCC drivers tidied this up ??? Only other gripe was big screen showing the dammm Ox/Bridge boat race live instead of live motor racing. Weather was good to us both days, car park not over full, easy in & out. roll on September. |

Watched the highlights programme on Channel 4 yesterday, and to say that I was underwhelmed would be an overstatement. It would seem to have been done on the cheap, and from a motorsport point of view, I didn't recognise any of the presenters or commentators.
An example, to call one of the Bentleys in the John Duff Trophy race, as they waited in the marshalling area, as a BMW was unforgivable. |

Well that's pretty obvious. My point is, to use a music analogy, you are being sold the Jimi Hendrix experience, The Who, Janis Joplin and Billie Holiday, but getting a covers band. At least the Sillystone classic actually has covers bands as well so you're under no illusion as to the authenticity of what you're buying into.

They are Group 1 or Group 1.5 as permitted by the BSCC in period. That said there are still some things gs that grate with me but as I'm unlikely to be there again I'm not too bothered. |

I thought that's what he said & couldn't quite believe it! They also spelt Neel Jani as Yani on the screen too. |

There was some great racing at Goodwood and all you people can do is moan!

Which makes my 'moan' more pertinent. My only way of seeing this good racing was the supposed highlights programme shown on TV. If the racing was good as you say, then those supposed highlights did not show that!

I think the complaints are about the coverage, not the racing. I was disappointed to find that although I'm a fully paid up member the system wouldn't recognise my details.

It was clearly done quickly and given the time frame thought it was OK and presumably shows the stuff that the mass/paying public are interested in. I recognised Julia Bradbury but not the bloke and found it really annoying that he hadn't done the basic research of checking how people's (and car's) names are pronounced etc. |

The thing is, are our expectations unrealistic? I've been thinking about this a lot....
.....Not long ago there was no Internet to show live streaming let alone free. Why should it be free? One doesn't expect to walk into the meeting FOC, and many people have said "the TV coverage was like being there." If you're "there" perhaps you should expect to pay? If the internet wasn't there we wouldn't be watching, free or paid for. They're a commercial business, no reason to give it away and stop people coming through the doors. I suppose it's the same argument over F1 and FTA TV. The more I think about it, the more I think I'm unreasonable expecting it free. However in the case of F1 it's hardly "free" because by having a huge audience we do pay for it through our licence fee/buying advertisers' goods etc. I think it's just the transition from "free" to "paying" that's unpleasant. |

I gather that the driving standards were unacceptable to the winning driver in one race. He described "the whole race as very unpleasant"
As the lead drivers battled both competitors were seen on the grass and hand gestures were plentiful. Words were exchanged in Parc Ferme afterwards. All very un Goodwood like. But thats what you get with..... Edwardian racers! |

Peter,
Marcus Pye, being very sadly under-underutilised; Doug Nye briefly and was then cut off before he could say anything informative and accurate; Toby Somebody who did not cover himself in glory and to rub it in repeated every bon mot he was pleased with, however much tosh it was. Should not be let near a microphone without a period of education about historic racing. And someone else who obviously came out of the same bag and was probably called Dom or Ollie. Nick |

Ah right. Toby Moody, motorbike commentator. Apart from Marcus I don't know the others.
Also understand that the grids were comprised of all the same historic racers. |
