Pierre Kaffer for Rahal?

Pierre Kaffer - racing at the Macau Formula 3 GP this weekend - let escape at the paddock yesterday that he is quite close to sign a deal with Rahal Racing for 2004.

Kaffer, that raced this year in the Porsche Super Cup, was a single-seater until 2001, when he got the 4th place in the German Formula 3 Championship.

Interestingly enough, Kaffer did not say that he will be racing for Rahal next year...

Cheers,

Muzza

The way you've phrased that, what else do you think he would he be doing for Rahal? The next question is Atlantics or CART?

What about filling in for Kenny Brack in that other series?

I wouldn't be surprised to see Rahal start an ALMS team, too. (If fiscally feasible)

Grandprix.com states that Kaffer would be driving for Rahal's CART team if the deal goes through.

Replacing or joining Michel? More relevantly perhaps, replacing or joining Gigante?

I'd say Michel and Gigante are pretty secure.

It has been rumoured that he Kaffer's deal id to test for Rahal only. The question was asked and Kaffer refused to answer.

He ran Jon Fogarty in the last two Atlantics races this year I believe.

Robin Miller seems to think that Bryan Herta will be testing the IRL car while Brack recovers. I'm hoping this is true, and that Rahal intends to run two cars in CART. Of course, I'd rather see Fogarty...

At Montreal, Rahal said that if the funding could be found, Fogarty would be running in Atlantics as a coach for Danica, basically.

Of course, that was then ...

What do you who know him think of the German (A German named Pierre?) driver mentioned above whose name I forget?

I've read elsewhere that the Kaffer deal went away when the Lausitz race did.

Kaffer's sponsor is Infinion, so: If Infinion pays, Kaffer will drive. If Infinion doesn't pay, Pierre won't drive.

We understand that, but will Infinion pay Kaffer to driver for Pat Patrick Racing if there isn't a German race on the CART schedule in 2004 & 2005?

Sorry about that, I just got up and I'm still tired......I meant will Infinion pay Kaffer to drive for Team Rahal without the possibility of a German race.

Although Infineon has roots in the Silicon Valley, I had heard that it was its German arm that was sponsoring Kaffer and when the Lausitz race went away, so did the idea. I can't state that as "fact," though.

I've doubt that Infineon will be a sponsor for Patrick next year with or without Wirdheim.

And by the way Thommy. I'm sure that even if BW was making this silly mistake in Monaco you can't take enything away from by pointing out this all the time.

Well, I think Infion is a global- player! I don't think they would need a german driver! The Infinion- Racing- Boss is Udo Schneider, who had led a BMW- Works- Team in the old German Supertouringcarchampionship, and who hed led the PZK- Team at German Porsche- Cup and Porsche- SuperCup.

Look at Marco Werner, he also has been an Infinion- Boy for a few years, and he had been pushed to ALMS by Infinion. And it seems Marco will drive the DTM in an Infinion- Audi A4.

So it looks Infinion signs talents who's reputation is falling, takes them to the Porsche- Cups, and If they were succesfull there they would become bigger chances.

So, why no higher steps for Kaffer?

Thommy, you're overlooking one factor: With the potential change in ownership, little money put up and a tenuous schedule, planning for the CART series is at a standstill and there are no guarantees. Infineon could just be telling Kaffer to wait until the thing stabilizes in '05 before committing $ "on the come."
