Finnish reasons to be cheerful

Number 60 on the Division 1 entry list

Matti Alamaki, Honda Civic. My goodness if I lived anywhere near Finland!

Be great if it also said Peugeot 205T16 E2 aswell!!

Yeah great to see Matti on the entry list. The Honda hasn't been going too bad this year so you never no, might spring a surprise or two.

With a bit of luck and that rather short entry list perhaps he can make it to the B final…

Wonder if the D2 lads get points. No ERC points if less than 8 starters. For the moment 9 entries but at least 2 of them will not be in Kouvola.

Makes me wonder: It all comes to down to the Honda's, but what if Alamäki was in an A-final car, what can he do? And which car would suit him best? I think the C4 and Fabia would suit him well...

Funny you should say that DCS!
When it was announced he was to be coming back I could only imagine him coming back in a pug, then when i saw the Honda I thought not bad car different from anything we had seen in Div1 before. But I have always thought that Jernberg and Matti where very similar in driving styles and to think of Matti in a Skoda I think would be awesome but the big "IF" is has he still got it in him or has the desire gone away,Manageral role would properly suit him now, wealth of knowledge to pass on!

He did his comeback in a Peugeot, Jokinens 206. No great success. Of course it’s great to se Matti back, but you need to race consistently to keep up with the top drivers, and Matti have only done a handful of races the last years. So, No no final for Matti I think.

I think it is also a question of how he can adapt to the newer, different to drive cars... I think he should be able to adapt after one year...

Matti has hardly driven the Civic to be fair. And I dont expect him to be in a final, just great to see the greatest champion of them all out there again!

Matti is not among the 16 fastest of the 1st heat, after being 13th in timed practice.

One drive-shaft broken, the brake-box gone and two flat tyres – all in the first heat for Matti, according to Tim Whit.

Haha, I saw that too, I thin Matti is erm pusghing the limts of teh tech perhaps!

As discussed in another post, making new parts that have never been used before, and making them last is always going to be like this.

Yeah, if you ever want to do a comeback, do it in a proven car...

Not everyone has that choice sadly, there are many who I am sure could coem back but dont want to tarnish their reputation! At least Matti is having a go!

Fair play to the lad, Its been coming and though I am not as keen as I should be about a Brit doing well its a great achievement on a foreign track

Perhaps the fact noone has really been there before is an equaliser for Liam.

he joins the likes of Will, Pat, Hutton Nick Jones, Rennison and the older drivers like John Taylor and Chapman and Douglas I think in being Brit winners.
