WSR FR3.5 Round 8 - Nürburgring

After a seven week layoff, WSR is back this weekend with the penultimate round of the series from the Nürburgring.

Some quick news in brief:

> Bertrand Baguette could wrap up the drivers' title this weekend, with his lead over second-placed James Walker currently standing at 31 points. Jaime Alguersuari is in third place, 36 points behind Baguette.

> Ultimate Motorsport are missing this weekend after losing both Greg Mansell and Miguel Molina. Mansell left the team about a month ago and has been followed in the last few days by Molina, who cited a "breach of contract by the Ultimate Motorsport" as his reason for leaving.

> Former race winner Salvador Duran has rejoined old team Interwetten.com, Macau GP winner Keisuke Kunimoto has joined Epsilon Euskadi, whilst Brendon Hartley, John Martin and Mihai Marinescu are back at Tech 1, Comtec and Interwetten respectively.

great to see Salvador Duran back, hes not driven since the end of the A1GP season and already looks better than the other Interwetten drivers, no Ultimate Signature cars either, wonder whats happened with Molina?

Algaursuari is really slow in practice... Turvey has been dominating him this season. Quite suprised actually how far down the order Algaursuari is, maybe he hasn't done a fresh tyre run yet?

Hartley really has come on strong of late. I still don't rate him that highly among the junior Red Bull drivers but a good showing here

Is live timing available for the race somewhere?

Really enjoyed todays race, think Jon Lancaster was a bit robust with Turvey but hey fairplay to him for not giving way.

GG from Pic,since Monaco he didn't make any mistakes.
Pretty consistent and fast.
He kept in mind his mistake so he doesn't push too much in Race 1.

I want to see him at Addax in 2010.

Fairuz Fauzy was doing pretty well - his overtaking moves against Turvey and Alguersuari were great. Maybe he's even more motivated now, when there is the possibility that he might drive for Lotus in F1...

Fauzy has been very quick all year, especially since his win in Hungary. He's a dead cert for one of the Lotus drives. I wonder if it will be too much too soon for him like GP2 was

Big congratulations must go out to Bertrand Baguette, the new WSR champion. The key to his title this year has been his consistency - he's finished in the Top 10 in fourteen of the fifteen races, with only a DNF in the second Barcelona race blotting his copybook. With that sort of form it was always going to be hard for the others to catch him.

It'll be interesting to see how he performs in the Renault F1 test. Baguette himself says that F1 is the aim for next year, and with three or possibly four new teams entering, he might just have an outside chance of a seat.

With the title now decided, the battle for second in the standings looks quite exciting with Pic, Walker and Alguersuari separated by just nine points heading to the final round at Motorland Aragon, where it'll be a level playing field for everyone as no one has raced there before.

I think Fauzy has matured into the driver he always showed glimpses of in the past, His GP2Main drives were overshadowed by his team mate being a Renault development driver, in both seasons,But in GP2 Asia he was a different animal. He led Malaysia's A1GP Team to some good results.

The first race at Nurburgring Fauzy was the driver of the dayfor me, the second race he had good fortune that has sometimes eluded him in the past, but still drove well to the podium. The 2 Tech 1 cars were awesome. John Lancaster deserverd more from the 2nd race.

Congrats to Bertrand Baguette for the title I really thought at the start of the season it would be P1's James Walker but I think P1 lost its way somewhere..

I think P1 did a solid job at the weekend, considering a lot of their equipment has been destroyed. Daniil Move even managed a podium.

Baguette is the first Belgian after Jacky Ickx to win the title in a major single seater championship.
In an interview in La Dernière Heure today, Baguette says he is ready for the big jump. He is not interested in GP2, F1 is his next target.

"Baguette is the first Belgian after Fred Vervisch one year ago to win the title in a major single seater championship" wouldn't sound so good with sponsors though would it...
