What is your current road car(s)?

Mine weapon of choice is a 1991 Honda Civic Sedan....what a beast!!

this is my current beast (or not) 1987 Ford XF Falcon...I only got this car about 4 months ago and it gets me to and from work allthough it could do with another 50 or 60 horsepower.

the other car we have is an 89 VN Commodore.

Three cars between me and Mrs Bluebottle:

1984 Ford Grandad- for when we need to tow a trailer full of band gear or are givig lifts to more than one of our friends.

Dutton Sierra kit car- a Mk2 Escort based kit utility vehicle which is great for lugging around stuff which dosn't quite justify using Granada + trailer, but this car only has two seats. Better around town than the Granny.

Vincent Hurricane- a 2-seat convertable kit built on the chassis of a Triumph Spitfire 1500- this one is purely for fun.

None of the above see regular daily use, but each has is purpose. We also have 5 bicycles between us- one of which is fitted with a Heinzman electric motor, 20 miles at 15 mph- great for hilly areas!
For a short period of time (about a year) we had a series 2 Landrover called 'The Antichrist' (I got it as part payment for another car I sold) and before that we had a Bedford ambulance for band transportation- 10 mpg, not good!!

For overseas markets, that's an Opel, or a Holden Barina (?).

Ongoing project car: 1970 Mercedes Benz 220 W115 series.

That's the old Merc with the stacked headlamps and a separate grille, so beloved of Beirut taxi drivers.

Their christened names are "Starbug" and "Isolde" respectively.

I nearly ran into a van lucky for my ten year old breaks that still work OR my helmet would Have hit the side of the van and my neck would be sore.

A 1989 Peugeot 405 - just the ordinary 1600 cc version, but it goes quite well, and it's soooo comfortable. A small crack on the exhaust pipe appeared just recently, so it sound like it's got a couple of Remus attached to it. MichaelC, I bet your 306 would even go faster than the Prost cars

I drive a 97 Dodge Dakota pickup. 4.0 liter V6 and 5 speed. It also has the upgraded handling package. Not too bad for a truck, makes mincemeat out of V6 Camaros on the circular ramps to get on highway.


Mine looks similar to this but is black and two wheel drive.

1974 Dodge Charger 400cu.in. gets 8mpg.
1986 VW Jetta Carat 1.8ltr. gets 38mpg.
Both of these are now for sale to help pay
for my 2001 BMW X5 SAV 4.4ltr which so far
is getting 15mpg. I am still breaking it in
and hopefully that will improve some.

I dying to get some serious rubber on some decent alloys and stiffer springs.

The wife drives an eleven year old SAAB 900 with 110 k, she loves it as much as I hate it.

i drive a 240z datsun with a 400 hp chevy and 4 speed b and m automatic.. the car weights 2000lbs steers and handles beautifully and does zero to 60 in 3.7 sec...its hard for me to visualize a car with more weight and less hp than that...

I paid £500 for the above beastie. Since then I have spent close to £1,500 getting the bodywork reallty well sorted out and all the niggly mechanical things. Not only do I like to take pride in my car, I like the idea of preserving a future (present?) classic. It runs well, probably produces as little emissions as anything else on the road, and gets me from A to B the same as a brand new Ferrari, which I would sell to fund a complete Maestro restoration! I'm not adding to the numbers of cars on the road by selling it on and buying a new one, so I don't feel I have any reason to feel guilty about owning this baby

I have no doubt that some of you will scoff at my current choice of conveyance. Both my parents had one, so somehow I ended up with one too, but one with all the trimmings, including lovely walnut bits on the door caps. It's an Austin Maestro 1.6 Vanden Plas and has typical VP gadgets and luxury items. It qualifies me to roam the country attending Maestro Owners Club and Vanden Plas Owners club meetings, and I love it dearly.

What is the diffrence between paying 1 million and 1 thousand for a car that basically does the same thing take you from here to their so the fact is that you would be simpy wasting 900 thousand plus dollars if you paid that much for a car. The more expensive a car the more money you will waste.

CArs are seen as a symbol of status in this messed up society is that correct? So the better car you have the more successfull you are for some messed up general perception? Money equals success why?

The more you spend on a car the more money you waste?

Well, here it finally is!




I've had this car on and off for over four years now (sold it three times - I keep buying it back!)

1972, (tax exempt) RS2000 running gear, 5 speed box, fast road cam,
dellorto's, lightened flywheel, fully adjustable 2 1/4"
coil-over suspension etc... goes like the proverbial of a shovel.


And I love it!
