Access to Calder Park off the freeway to change

According to a local paper (I live in the same local council area as Calder Park) private driveways and public roads direct access to and from the freeway will be removed in the near future replaced by three proper exits and overpasses.

Three flyovers will be built at the following existing and future junctions, Sunshine Avenue, Kings Road & Calder Park Drive and access roads will be built to allow existing residents and public facilities access to the freeway via one of the overpasses.

In simple terms this means that to get out of Calder Park you will need to use the overpass to be built at Calder Park Drive. The positive of all this will be the elimination of the Russian roulette of trying to cross the freeway at the current track exit.

No start or finish dates were announced in the article

Don't hold your breath for it to happen. I'd give it at least 3 years (or when Pauline gets out!!) if not longer.

I'm sick of playing Russian Roulette at Robertson's Road (the street before Calder) and the new overpasses can't come soon enough.

Not neccessarily - Calder Park Drive is the road well before Calder Park and is the one designed to give access to the Calder Park Industrial area and as a back way to Hillside.

There will still be two access points - one a few hundred metres further up (Gate 4) as this also serves as access to the Organ Pipes National Park, and then the main Gate 1 access. Possibly they *may* restirct access to NW bound traffic, but I would see that highly unlikely as emergency access would still be required at the track.

Sounds like Lakeside- fix up the entrance and exit problem just before they stop having big meetings there...

Shouldn't the developers be made to pay for all this after all they made the bucks out of selling the land and now the tax payer has to pay for the councils lack of forsight.Arrrrrrh this makes me sick.

What developers?

As far as Calder Park is concerned there is NO development either scheduled or planned.

After the last street drags, we had a bingle out there that closed the outbound section of the freeway. I'd hate to think that government can think that quickly but do you think the crash could be a factor?

Was caused by the 'russian roulette'.

Seriously doubt it - after the last Super Tourer meeting there a couple of years ago (night meeting ) there was a major accident there which required the air ambulance - it's probably the governments quick reaction to that one...

Plus - aware there have been others over the years - until about 4 years ago they used to have Police at the exit...cost recovery must have put a stop to that though...

The wording of the article stated that ALL access to the freeway would be modified so that it would be via one of the three overpasses.

Examples;
Robertson Rd Closed
Organ Pipes new road to Calder Park Drive Interchange
Holden Rd detoured along southern side of Railway to join Victoria Rd then Calder Park Drive.
Calder Park All traffic to use Calder Park Drive interchange.

There have been many accidents, several fatal, between the Melton Hwy & Diggers Rest since that section of freeway was opened and this is the reaction to it.

Just don't hold your breath waiting for it, it's one thing to announce something like this, it's another thing to actually fund it.

Another labor government initiative.

A labor electorate is it? Must be a marginal one...

Yes Labor but not marginal as far as I can remember for that part of the world.

I'm not going to hold my breath with the Deer Park, Pakenham By-Passes as well as the Scoresby Tollway in the pipeline well ahead of this project, if it ever happens

Or the Craigieburn bypass, hell you can hardly see the new overpasses out in the middle of nowhere for the long grass now.

PVDA - the govt appears to be doing everything it can to blackball the Scoresby Tollway now the Fed Govt has said - 'remove the toll or no money'...

I drove past Eastern Creek this afternoon and noticed that the new dragstrip is nearing completion, however the good news for everyone using either facility, or people driving past on their way to, wherever they go in Western Sydney, is that the new road South of the circuit cant be far from completion.

Itll need to be done before any drag meet can be held as the current road crosses the slow down area
