The idea is for a cheap, fun class as base cars and spares are plentiful and things like roll cages etc are all available due to the popularity of the one make racing series. In the rally class any of the Mk1, 2 or 3 can be used. They are ideal cars for the circuit rally series as they don’t need much ground clearance. I drove one of Paul Sheard’s cars at Oulton between lockdowns on a “rally drift day” and it was fantastic fun and the cars are good to drive and very controllable. The Dukeries will be my first attempt at rallying. Well, that’s not strictly true as I have tried to have a go before in my own Mk2 Escort but it failed after 400 yds of the first stage and I haven’t tried again until now. Recent posts got me reminiscing about rallying, which is where I cut my motorsport teeth from about 73 with a little road-rallying, before being lured into stages co-driving my mate's Imp. Of course at this time of the year we'd be gearing up for chasing the RAC around the country, with my mother muttering that it must be RAC time as the weather was getting cold (and often) wet/snowy. and my rally mate (who was a teacher) suffering from his annual bout of "RAC flu" as his head termed it....he never had any other time off sick, so the head didn't seem to mind......
After gaining an International licence to do the Welsh in 84 as part of a deal with the Lada Trophy, I was lucky enough to get invited to co-drive on a number of Internationals including doing the Welsh again, and the Manx and Swedish, all with John Stevens in an RX7, and my only RAC appearance with Nick Edmond who we met whilst doing the Lada Trophy, although the RAC was in a Toyota AE86. I also did a few other foreign events with him, including the Swedish, in a Peugeot 205 Rallye (which he'd sold before we set off for the event, which probably explains why we finished ). Those were all up to about 89, and the events were pretty tough, certainly nothing like the current events - except maybe the Manx, which we termed "office-hours rallying" . Only dabbled in the odd event since then, as I got into a seven-day a week business in 93, but I did try one of the MN circuit rally series a couple of years ago in a pretty quick 205 GTi at Oulton Park... unfortunately it blew its gearbox in a pretty comprehensive way as we approached Lodge (running anti-clockwise)...at least we managed to park it behind the Armco and it wasn't far to walk back to the pits |

No it was from a firm off of eBay, I had to laugh at the slave cylinder box packed on one side it was free postage as well
I had a massive burn up of cardboard boxes today from my and next doors workshop, I know that we are supposed to recycle cardboard and paper but most times I have witnessed both the rubbish and paper/cardboard just chucked into the same wagon and crushed up ! Where is all the reams of identical brown paper that is stuffed into every parcel you receive (except for Gordon's!) coming from? There must be a colossal amount of waste in producing the stuff.

I see Race Retro has been postponed. I also heard from a mole that Autosports International is shifing from early January, hopefully to mid-February but in view of the RR news that may be in doubt.
