Formula R vs. Yokos?
I was racing in Ireland at the weekend - I was on Yoko 21Rs; some of my opposition were on Dunlop Formula Rs. I've seem Historics race on both Formula Rs and the slighly stickier Yoko 32Rs - anyone tried both - any comments on their relative merits? (I reckon the Formula Rs could be stickier; my opposition, of course, think the reverse!).

I've only run my Capri on D84Js so can't comment on the Yoko. However I know that in a long race the Rs go off and lose grip.

Any feel for whether the Formula Rs are very sticky (it was only a ten lap race, so going off not an issue)? Most Seven drivers seem to think that 21Rs are about the minimum you can get away with for serious track driving (but they don't realise how much fun you can have on a list 1A tyre...) - certainly they are a lot less grippy than ACB10s and their ilk.

My exerience has been that the Yoko's add about three secs per lap at Spa (as fitted by other drivers). Also the D97s are as good as the Yoko. I had a great dice with a Capri on 97's last year until the pit stop. Afterwards my times were about two secs/lap slower but the other car kept the same times.

Peter - do you mean that the Yokos or Formula Rs were quicker ("Yokos add 3 seconds a lap" = slower???)? I take it the different code numbers mean different compounds of Formula Rs - is there much difference between them?

Sorry. I meant reduce by 3 secs per lap. Also the D97s do the same.

The D84J is a Treaded pattern similar to a road tyre. The D97 has more of a cut slick surface. Just like the Yoko.
