Interesting, has there ever been an Audi LMP engine in a non-Audi LMP?

The V8 TFSI from the R8 LMP ran in the back of a B07/10 LMP1 Lola back in 2007 for three races (two LMS races and Le Mans).

So, they will be offering a V8 engine, but not the new I-4 Turbo?

According to http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/107154 DTM will only switch 4 cilinder turbo engines by 2016.

The old 4-liter DTM engine is being offered--with modifications to reduce internal friction and increase fuel economy--as a low-cost alternative fopr privateer P1 teams.

I'd guess Audi has plenty of blocks and parts it won't be needing, and there are plenty of P1 privateers who are stuck for money, so a cheap alternative might actually benefit everyone.

Judd doesn't look too good after Le Mans last year, Honda is probably pricey and also unproven--and also a lot more complicated, probably, with a turbo/intercooler system to package.

Audi--Good for business, good for racing. Advancement through old technology.

If it is the pressure, then the turbine is creating compressed air for the intake and simultaneously driving a turbine that is generating electricity. If it is working like a thermocouple, then it is generating electricity from the absorbed heat of the exhaust and not its pressure.

Now, the questions are:
Which customer would purchase such a unit ?
Which LMP1 chassis to put it in ?

My best guess would be Oak Racing. Jacques Nicolet has already confirmed that their plan is to run one LMP1 next year and that they could be using an engine which would not necessarily be supplied by Judd, AER or HPD (source: interview on E-I).

Would this DTM engine be reliable over 24hours or have enough power to be competitive?

DTM 4L V8 power is 450-480hp, redline 7500rpm.
NBE has to increase >30-50hp power, possibly decreasing the max revving for better consumes. Good Luck to them.

Thanks, and I agree. Even with the weight break privateers get using a non hybrid solution this just doesn't seem like enough power.

I think the same. The Power of that engine will go around 530-550 bhp, so in my opinion that is to low. They will need more power.

Another reason to keep private lmp1 far from manufacturer's lmp1. 2014 technical regulamentation is strange, according to the latest draft V07 dated 28.06.2013, No ERS cars have a max petrol flow of 95,6kg/h, >120L/h. Considering that during le mans race, the private lola rebellion was able to consume 81L of fuel in an average stint of 50 minutes, if we consider also 81 : 50 = X : 60, we have a possible and reasonable 97L/h consume, more or less 75kg of fuel per hour. Answer is, why private teams have to change current engines if 2014 regulamentation will let them use more fuel?

Uh, forgive my ignorance, but aren't DTM engines air restricted? And that will be done away with in 2014's lmps. So how would those engines not make enough power?

Without air restrictors, DTM engines would be more powerfull because able to revv over 7500rpm. >500hp@8000rpm is realistic, but consumes for a 2014 lmp1 usage?

Toyota's RV8 engine is used in two different series and seems quite powerful and decent in efficiency. I think these DTM engines would do just as well. They're larger as well, 4.0 vs 3.4 liters. We'll see what Toyota does for Rebellion next year.
