First Audi, then Cadillac and now ORECA
It looks like will not see the ORECA cars at Le Mans next they have said that they will not go back with out the support of a manufactor.
Makes the Bentley win next year look more likly........... |

Forget 2003 and look to 2004 with Mazda, Prodrive and the GTS Supercars etc.
2003 will be interesting though like 1995 with anyone able to win. GTS and GT should be good too. |

Well apart from Bentley. We still don't know whos racing.
I would put money on Pescarolo as an outside bet. They had problems in 2002 but De Cortanze is clever and will get the car working. It also looks awsome. |

I agree with JAG De Cortanze is clever. Didn't he start with the Bonnet Djet (Matra Djet) in the 60's?

Next year is shaping up well, could be the closest race for years! the private Audis have never shown as well as the Joest run cars and I think next year will be the same.
Oreca will be on the grid next year alongside panoz, dome, bentley,Courage/pesc. plus some very quick 675's from MG lola Courage & reynard add to that the chance of 550's fighting vettes & the evergreen Vipers in the GTo's TVR will be hot on the heels of the 911's hopefully the 360's will show better and may even be as quick as the Morgan. |

The Problem could be the one Joest run Audi that is being talked about - this could run away with it!

If Bentley has the driver line-up that is said (McNish, Lehto, Blundell, ...) they will not have problems to win. Like Rhino my money is for Bentley

The private Audi's may go better next year because there is no factory Audi's, meaning there could be more resources available for them. Having said that, is it definate that Audi will pull out?

If Joest is running an Audi then it is effectively a factory Audi as he did run them for Audi over the last three years. I too think Bentley will be much more competitive this year as it is clear that is likely to be the focus of the VAG attention.

2003 was always gonna be a bad year for sportscars. The new rules means there will be no new cars next year so its down to whats left. With the works Audi and Caddillac's pulling out it will be a year for the privateers and Bentley. I think Bentley will win Le Mans and Champion could rule the roost in the ALMS unless Joest has his way and keeps his cars running one more year. I just wish Caddy would reconsider because its stupid to pull out just when the perfect opportunity to win Le Mans comes up.

When people talk about 'bad' years just think back to 1992 and 1994 in the recent past. No FIA GTs, no ALMS a dying FIA Group C series and IMSA GTP series. 2002 has been the best year in terms of grids and crowds/tv coverage for FIA GTs and the ALMS. That dosen't mean it will always be the same but enjoy what youve got. I've long got over worrying about grids the following year, in all forms of motorsport, as these things always go in phases. Few years good then a few years 'bad'. Nothing can EVER be worse than the mid '90s when for around 4 years there was no significant sportscar racing outside of LM. Now if prototype numbers are down we have GTs to fill the gap. When Group C finished there had been no proper GT racing for at least 15 years and therefore there was no back up. |
