Special Saloons At Mallory

Hi, just wanted see if any other old timers would be going to Mallory Park on Sunday July 20th? I know Mike Berman is, Richard Long WAS going, but he is doing some testing at Spa in a Porsche, so is anyone else going? I found a demon OFFER on AMAZON! Two adult tickets for £10! YES..Ten Pounds for two. It is being offered by Mallory Park to try to get as many people there to show support for the two guys that got the circuit up and running again. So, if you can, pop along, and if you see Mike or myself come over and say hello, we will be around the Paddock somewhere. Oh, yes, we both have had T-shirts made with a picture of our old saloon racers across the front, so you won't miss seeing us! Cheers..Gerry Taylor.

There are 3 Special Saloons/ Modsports races and the entry for them is full I believe.

The Sports Vs Saloons races were over subscribed so they have been split into 2 separate grids (2x 2 races) as well.

Special Saloons

Special Saloons back to Mallory Park, what could be better. A big thankyou to all those that have made this happen. The home of Special Saloons, one of the best viewing tracks in the UK, and a great club racing atmosphere. Roll on the 20th July.
Has anyone seen an entry list yet?, cars/drivers etc.

Wouldn't it be great to see a big attendance from the fans. What a great day out, good racing and hopefully sunshine, and a great viewing circuit as well. Good luck to everyone competing. Gerry Taylor.

Thank you for the link. Having read the entry list it has encouraged several friends to come along and support the circuit.

Desperately trying to get the Maguire Metro finished,it might even run today. So many jobs to do.If we make it,it should be interesting,as I have not even sat in the car yet,let alone driven it.I can see it being corner weighted & tracked on the grid.

All sorted my end so expect the usual overdose of photo's in the gallery off the CSCC homepage on Monday.

Also - in case you missed the update - no church bells so that means the days proceedings can start somewhat later with the first signing on now not due till 08.30. This will also enable those cars that need to, time to warm their engines after the noise curfew and before their qualifying session at 10.00. Plus all other times have been brought forward by 5 minutes.

it's going to be epic, see you all there

I notice that Malcolm Beer is on the entrylist. When was the last time he raced? Seems like an eternity since I saw his name on an entrylist.

I have owned a fabrication company for more than 30 years,so not exactly new at the game, but there again,I am not welding it,one of my staff is.I will put my fingers in my ears & hope for the best, lol.
It is possible to weld the top of a tank that has fuel in the bottom, just purge it with inert gas, often do this on boat tanks, saves taking them out or draining them.

Tank was obviously not purged properly, this can even be done with exhaust gasses.
On a better note, the engine is now running, may even get on the rolling road for a quick session.

Was going to be attending this - great entry for the Specials - and one of my mates is doing the Sports v Saloons......but I had a nasty fall earlier in the week and can't contemplate that length of journey.....

Enjoy everybody!

That does not sound good Richard. I shall refrain (with effort) from the usual "take more water with it" comments. Hope you recover soon - can we temp you with Anglesey?

Tempted, Joyce, but I may be in Huntingdon for the Imp Club National weekend

Full grisly story of my fall in Delta's Earl Grey thread.....

I can second that, which is the important news

Just got home from a good day, Daniel had a good couple of races in his Mexico, although he suffered water loss in both, with no trace?

Special saloon races were good watching, especially the flames out of the back of the Black Porsche

Good watching and a good advertisement for club motor racing. In view of discussions elsewhere on ten tenths it was great to see good awareness, close but hard racing with almost no contact. http://tentenths.com/forum/images/smilies/smile.gif

Really enjoyed my brief visit. A big crowd really for a clubbie, and good racing. I enjoyed the midfield battles in the a Special Saloons and Mosports - minis, imps/ Stilletos and MGBs. Great stuff.

I'd almost forgotten how good Mallory was for a spectator and was pleasantly surprised by the amount of people there. I hope that it persuades the new owners to put on similar quality car races next year.

Great variety in the Specials, just a pity to see so many not make races 2 & 3 due to mechanicals.

The Sports v Saloons 2nd race Morgan v Porsche battle was a perfect example of good, close and clean racing.

Cliff,

There seemed to be something coming out of the back of the Escort exiting the Devil's Elbow - perhaps this was the cause or was it just smoke due to bodywork rubbing?. Was the water loss the cause of what sounded like a misfire or was that another problem?

Thanks for letting me know - I noticed steam coming out of the overflow a couple of times, so it could have been that - will investigate to see if any evidence of bodywork rubbing.

It was good to see Grant & MG David, amongst others, my wife even commented what a nice friendly atmosphere it was.
