15mins to race start. Interesting to see only 6 cars line up for the F4 race. At what point do they throw in the towel?

When however is propping it up either a: finally realises they are flogging a dead horse ( was it ever even alive ? ) , or b: runs out of money. I don't care which option it is, as long as it is sooner rather than later.

Experience pays off.

The GRM and Kelly cars were woefully slow. Hardly surprising given their performances in Supercars.

At Sydney Motorsport Park today and the TCR race was pretty good. Bright really showed his experience. Cars are interesting and varied. Also many more people at the circuit for a Saturday compared to any other Shannon’s meeting I have attended. There is real interest in TCR, especially with the younger ones. A promising start

You and I were obviously watching different races today, as I am fairly sure the race I watched a GRM Alfa Romeo was very nearly on the podium.

Dont confuse the Teams with the cars, the Renault's need a lot of work, as does the Subaru and the Opel, and it will take some time to make these cars competitive.

Cheers,

Mark.

It was a good start.

Not exciting as the first Supertouring race at Eastern Creek all those years ago

With those cars being uncompetitive internationally, why not just give them local BOP adjustments? If they already have no ballast, then just add a bit more boost perhaps!

PS. I am little confused that TCR did not seem to follow on their plan to use BTCC type reverse grids and success ballast. I fear races 2 and 3 may be rather dull without these measures.

Heimgartner citing gear selection problems as to a contributor to his lack of race pace yesterday.

Hopefully the tail end Charlies can lean on the tyres a bit more today to close up the field.

The grid for race three is based on finishing positions, however there is also a reversed-grid element to the starting order. Numbers representing the cars that finished from sixth to 12th position in race two are put into a bowl, and one number is drawn at random. The corresponding car will start on pole.

Cars that are successful in the BTCC must carry ballast (additional weight) in their cars. Ballast is given to the top ten runners in the following allocations:

1st: 54kg, 2nd: 48kg 3rd: 42kg, 4th: 36kg, 5th: 30kg, 6th: 24kg, 7th: 18kg, 8th: 12kg, 9th: 6kg, 10th: 6kg

Between events, ballast is allocated according to championship positions and is carried in qualifying and race one
For races two and three, ballast is allocated according to the finishing positions in race one and two respectively
http://www.btcc.net/about/key-rules-and-regulations/

It works, it compresses the top cars/drivers and the tail end Charlies together -- they should do it IMO.

Not that the racing action was completely terrible as is, but the closer, the better.

First dummy spit of the year goes to Nathan Morcom, after being penalised for hitting everything except the safety car.

From Speedcafe: On Sundays, only 30 minutes will be allowed between the end of Race 2 and the closure of pit lane for the start of Race 3, with the added challenge of a 10-minute parc ferme period following Race 2.

Teams will therefore have only the 20 minutes, at which time cars must be parked at 45 degrees on the pit apron, to effect any repairs between races.

Refuelling is not permitted but tank capacity covers the two races, and any other work is allowed.

... yet hanging over the balcony as cars came back to the garages after R2, I heard the car controller for the KR Subarus call for Heimgartner's car to be rolled into the garage for refuelling, then once rolled back out Molly's was also. Being on the roof I didn't see what happened downstairs ovbviously, but didn't seem like rules were followed.

Not a bad effort for their first round. It was quite entertaining once they started figuring out their machines. I could easily watch more of this....
