there is plans afoot to build an all Australian Gt sportscar to be used for the Brittish GT series..

the could be ready for the 2003 season and is being developed by a company based in Melbourne. it will cost around $400,000 to buy a car and they are hoping to produce 25 cars a year...apparently it is similar to the Mclaren F1 car but will sport a as yet unamed V8 engine producing around 500 to 600 bhp.

here is a pic of the guy in charge of the operation (Matthew Thomas) and an artists impression of what the car may look like.

Splatz should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
That's 400K Oz dollars right?

Nice looking car.

I hope they dont use Holden VT gearboxes or Ford AU brakes!

im not sure which currency that was in Splatz..but I would assume it was Aussie dollars.

as i said i dont know what engine and gearbox combo they will use ..but I would imagine they will look overseas to see what is available..but you never know maybe holden or Ford will decide to see what our local built engines are like up against europe and japans best..a 550bhp holden engine or tickford block coupled with a hollinger 6 speed may be a good car ..but then again it may not ????

Further proof that the GT Supercar class is the way forward for sportscar racing.

Imagine cars like this one, the Saleen and the new Porsche Carrera GT racing at LeMans. Cost effective and better looking than LMP cars.
