the MITTY Speedfest 09: RoadATL May 1-3
so spring is in full bloom in North Georgia, which means it is time for the the Mitty again. this event always coincides with my birthday and looks like the Mitty is turning 31, just one year ahead of me, as always. also, will be the first time i take my 3 year old son (and the wife) to the track! let's hope that goes well.
Event/Ticket Info Event Schedule Vehicle Info Event Poster (very cool) Track Website feature make this year is JAGUAR, which shall be splended. might even have a "spot" of tea instead of sweet tea. also, organisers are hoping for "the largest collection of Group 44 cars, drivers and crew members ever assembled." the other "usuals" will be there along with, for the 2nd year in a row, historic MotoGP bikes...hope for a better turn out this time! weather is always good and the cars better! my still camera sucks but the two others i go with have nice cameras. i will have a pretty good video camera so we will try to provide both, in a "timely" manner.....hopefully quicker than last time.
the Mitty seems to be (IMO) the biggest historics event in US besides the Laguna races and gets bigger every year. i wouldn't mind hearing from some of the participants/racers in this great event...they may be able to provide more insight than a mere spectator. |

Happy B-day again and I am looking forward to the event. It will be great to incorporate the next generation of Field into the Turn 4 Friends. I'll be dragging the camera out for this event (usually have my best results) and will post pics asap. Weather doesn't look too bad although I may drive the truck... just in case.

was a great friday at RoadATL for the Mitty. met a lot of nice people to include one of my all time favorite drivers, Bobby Rahal, who is there driving his Lola sportsracer and Lola Formula Atlantic cars from his SCCA days.
not as many entrants there this year, perhaps for economical reasons (loads of FOR SALE signs everywhere you look). maybe some more will show up for the weekend. will give more details and pics later.... |

nice m_g! no cheating on the helmet shot?
most of my videos turned out to be rubbish, but i'll have to pick through them later. not much to tell about the racing. lot's of oil down on the track caused some lengthy full course cautions and even one red flag during the one hour WSC, GTP and GT enduro. some classes got lumped together due to lack of entrants. the motorcycle group was the only group that grew from last year. the highlight of the weekend for me was meeting Bobby Rahal and then watching him push both his cars hard during their times on the track. i also met several other really nice folk, including on fella that drove his Triumph TR3A from North Dakota...took him 4 four days, a fuel pump and a generator to get to North Georgia. always enjoyable, tho, to spend the day at the track with friends and the fam, this year. |

Great stuff, monaro_gto. One of my favourite cars - the CSL, and one of my favourite liveries - Martini. Oh, and yes, I can see the full set of pics with your first post, even though it is not numbered (it's between #9 & #10); how weird is that?

Looking good Furball. I'll get my photos posted this weekend. I think I'll prove that a 300mm is plenty big too.
John - The CSLs are sweet. There is a matching white one that shows up every year too. Some of my favs. |
