Yes I take your point but I thought the idea of the MM was to reflect the ethos of the Members Meetings rather than the period. That said they need to be careful because as you say:

Late F2 would be too fast for the circuit and slicks etc. are a no no. But, the HSCC has tried to replicate the Thruxton events, such as the Easter Weekends (which I used to enjoy).

How about a Special/Super Saloons and/ or Modsports race at the MM meeting?

I don't know enough about Goodwood's history to know whether these sorts of cars raced at Goodwood in the day, but then neither did GP 1 Saloon Cars. Special saloons and Modsports are historically significant in Uk club racing and were even featured support races on TV at things like the Easter Thruxton meeting in the 1970s.

I'm sure we all have personal favourites that we would like to see at the MM, but don't hold out hope.......

So sad that the Easter revival meetings with F2's never really took off, the one and only reappearance of the glorious F2's some 3-4 years back in the form of the Jochen Rindt trophy never really took off. Terrific battle with Martin O’Connell and Nick Fleming but the event seems to fizzled out. One of the best club meetings I've been to for years if a tad chilly as usual!

I've seen photographs of Goodwood in the 50s where people are wearing t-shirts and shorts. I'm sure that wouldn't be allowed today as it's not considered "period".

They haven't made a Lambretta (in Italy) since 1971 . . . there's more 'period history' in that photo than the average Goodwood photo.

To be honest, it was all trials gymkhanas and rallying for Scooters until the late 60's when racing became more prevalent, even then it was very much a club affair, and usually centred around Isle of Man week. racing now is still a small niche club affair, and surprisingly fast!

An interesting couple of demos lined up for this one. https://www.goodwood.com/grrc/event-...h-speed-demos/

Oddly enough when we mentioned Thruxton earlier my memory went back to the F5000 races.

There are quite a few Gp5 cars regularly racing in Peter Auto CER, so hope some of them get invited, and not just a few museum specimens! Not sure if there are any of my favourite type, the Zakspeed Capri, active, but think Ford Germany have a running example. Would also be good to see a genuine Zak Gp5 Escort, but again, not sure if any 'runners' in Europe?

Mike, hi there, you are correct that FoG do have a Zak Gp 5 Capri in running condition ; it used to be on permanent display in the reception of Ford Lommel, but I'm not sure they would be willing to run it (has always been a very budget concious company) & all their historic road & race cars are very rarely seen in public ; Goodwood may be seen as worthwhile however.

By the way, do you know that they open the test tracks for bicycling one day per year ? It's a great day, normally attended by local workers & bike clubs, but actually open to anyone who turns up. I did it several times as a former employee & then a regular visitor & it's really interesting to ride the tracks on a bike, a completely different experience vs hammering round in a prototype !

The whole area around Lommel is really nice for cycling (& drinking & eating) much overlooked by most visitors, other than the Dutch. I'm a big fan !

Would be great to see more exotic Fords out on track.

I can well remember standing on the old scaffolding terrace just after the chicane at Thruxton and it vibrating every time the Formula 5000 field went past !

Regarding the Easter Revival at Thruxton I think I remember the HSCC's Graham White saying that the HSCC members were reluctant to return to Thruxton after Mike Lane's unfortunate accident in the Clubmans race . A great shame as I thought this meeting complimented the Castle Combe Autumn Classic nicely with most of the cars being from the generation of cars after those that appear at the Autumn Classic .

Finally , next year marks the 50th Anniversary of racing at Thruxton (in its current guise) and I was wondering if there were any plans to celebrate the anniversary and if so what form they might take .

I think the other part of the problem for Easter Revivals, no matter how pertinent the name, is that Easter moves every year and plays havoc with the calendar.

Furthermore, when it is early, and especially when it is very early, it's probably too early for the weather, having cars ready and many of the possible entrants and drivers.

But apart from that it's obviously a great idea ... if it wasn't for all the numpties who think it's a good opportunity to get away for a weekend and clog up the roads.

Agree. I think the Ford museum Zak Capri may be the one that has run at the FOS in the past. May have run at the Oldtimer as well in recent years.....

Goodwood has added a new event to the MM programme - the Bolster Cup, to cater for specials as typified by John Bolster's 'Bloody Mary'.

There is a 50th Anniversary meeting scheduled for the 2nd/3rd June. Not all HSCC members were reluctant to return to Thruxton. We (Historic FF2000) would have loved to have raced there but unfortunately the anniversary meeting didn't fit in with our calendar. However, there is an under 2 litre single seater Formule Libre race on the programme which should encourage some nice cars out.

Ric Wood had a GRP 5 Zakspeed Capri recreation/ replica on display at the Autosport show. He has run it at the FoS in the past.

I am no expert but it is supposed to be a faithful replica.
