Richard Seaman Trophy Races 1951

Hello Members,

I´m new at this website and a german historian in F1.

I build a database about all F1-Drivers who has collect minimum a single,
(or half) point at World-Championship-Races since 1950.

These are about 299 (one female) and 34 drivers from the races Indy 500 1950 - `60.

I also look for all race wins in other categories, Sportscars, TouringCars and all formula racers. (F500, F3, F2, F3000, Tasman, F5000... and the american series.)

Since today I "worked" at the british Driver Dennis Poore and in the book 4th edition Grand Prix Who´s Who I read that Poore became 1951 to 1953 Winner of the Dick (Richard) Seaman Trophy Races.
I´m searching half of the day to find which races was counting therefore
but I found nothing.
Not in my 300 Books, and not in the www.

Can anyone give me assistance??

Thank You
Karl-Heinz

Welcome Karl-Heinz!

I’ve moved your thread to Motosport History as it is more likely to get replies there.

I will try and confirm, but I am sure these were VSCC* events, and probably not of relevance to your research Karl-Heinz

*Vintage Sports Car Club.

Dennis Poore Drove for Connaught in Grand Prix, and Aston Martin in Sports Car races, he also competed in a pre-war Alfa Romeo in hill climbs and club events.

The Richard Seaman Trophy is indeed a VSCC race. It was held at Silverstone between 1950 and 1954. In 1955 it moved to Oulton Park, becoming two separate events in 1963. In recent years the Seaman Trophies have been run at both Donington Park and Snetterton.

There is also a Richard Seaman Trophy awarded by the BRDC as part of their Gold Star awards; it now goes to the driver who scored most Gold Star points outside Formula 1 - in 2016, for example, it was won by Jann Mardenborough.

Lando Norris is the current holder.

Back in 1950 it was won by Stirling Moss, for being the 'British driver gaining the greatest number of points in foreign races.'

In the early years of the Richard Seaman Trophy I believe it was for pre-war Grand Prix cars and voiturettes. Dennis Poore owned and competed in an ex-Scuderia Ferrari Alfa Romeo 8C-35, which was sold to Hans Ruesch. Seaman had co-driven it to win the 1935 Donington GP. It passed to Robert Arbuthnot of High Speed Motors in Watford, who sold it to Reg Parnell, later buying it back. After Arbuthnot was killed in a road accident in 1946, Poore bought it and ran it for nearly ten years, winning the 1950 British Hillclimb Championship with it. You can find a good history of the car here:

Many GP drivers took part in British Formule Libre races eg Moss, Fangio, Farina, Gerard, Parnell, Collins.

By far the best source of information on these races is the Formula One Register's book "Formule Libre (Europe) 1929-61" which details every major Libre race in Europ with the entry list, and where possible the grid & full results.
It is available here
