Scimitar Eligibility

Can anyone tell me what events a 1967 Reliant Scimitar GT would be eligible for that a 1968 Reliant Scimitar GTE would not be?
Also, what sort of events would either one be eligible for? And should one be kept in ‘road going’ mode?
I am in the notion of building one with my son and wondered which model to go for.
I would probably prefer to race it, but if it could be entered in the odd rally or somesuch it would be useful.

There's one racing in the CSCC Swinging Sixties http://tentenths.com/forum/showpost....6&postcount=61 and I would think (but you need to check), it would fit with the HSCC Roadsports too.

Both a Scimiter GT & GTE would be eligible for the CSCC's Swinging Sixties series. have a look at the club's web site: http://www.classicsportscarclub.co.uk/

The CSCC runs 40 minute races ("mini-enduros") for one or two drivers with a compulsory pit stop so you & your son could share in the same race. The races are good vfm and Swinging Sixties is a very popular series. You could definately keep the car "road legal" if you wanted to but it might be worth coming along to one of our race meetings to chat to the other Scimiter racers & the co-ordinator & have a look at the sorts of mods that are normally carried out. Alternatively, ring the CSCC office, I am sure that they will be able to help.

You can also run it CTCRC Classic Thunder which this year allows fibreglass bodied 4 seaters. Better for you if like me you only want to do a 20 minute maximum race. http://www.classictouringcars.com/index.asp

BTW if the model started production run prior to 66 it may well be eligible for the clubs pre-66 series as that has a class that caters for cars like this (Celia's Peerless for eg.).

Pre 66 cars would have to have the old 2553cc Zephyr/Zodiac straight six engine rather than the V6 2994cc which was fitted to the later Coupes. I always thought that the Scimitar coupe was one of the best looking sports coupes of the period and is still an elegant car when in good condition. Although I haven't checked, I'm guessing it's a bit lighter than the GTE. It would be good to see one out. As an aside, since it would not be eligible, there were a couple of very quick turbocharged Coupes back in the late 1970s, early 80s prepared by Robin Rew and campaigned by him, and IIRC Pat Phelan.

Thanks for that Guys. Here in N. Ireland we have a pre '68 class for Hills n Sprints. It cuts out the Escorts and stuff like that. Strictly speaking the GTE would not be eligible as it started production in 1968, whereas the GT would be ok as it started earlier. Although I would prefer to tune the V6 engine so that would rule out the pre '66 class as Reliant only started using the V6 in 1966. The Swinging '60s races would be brill but expensive for me to do a Championship, so I was thinking more of one off annual events. Is there no more 'Tour of Britain' or events like that, even in Europe, that the cars would be eligible for?

The CSCC Swinging Sixties isn't a championship, it's a series and as such you are under no obligation to compete in all events. They visit Anglesey which must be your closest "mainland" circuit and Oulton too although I appreciate that with the ferry cost it becomes expensive. Not aware of any tours that cater for non-FiA eligible cars.

Can the car be made FIA eligible? and if it was, are there then tour type events it can do?

If the project goes ahead a trip to Angelsey for a 2 person race would definitely be on the cards.
