I have to say that all things considered, this weekend has been excellent,OK,perhaps one or two grids were a little short [little wonder really!] There has been some excellent racing, excellent company as well.Welldone Masters and all involved for making it happen.

It was well done by Alan Gow and Masters.
There are a few Masters workers who post on here and have a habit of saying how wonderful their organisation is.Perhaps they should include the fact they are a hired hand.
I now think Masters do a good job but when I read the Masters thread from two years ago its interesting to see the change of attitude of some of the posters on here. They are providing a good service but still not perfect .
They do have balls continuing running races in present financial circumstances

Not sure why. We have posters who are dedicated to CTCRC, HSCC or CSCC, among others and indeed some of them officials. They don't have to declare an interest.

I wasn't at this event so can't comment on it per se, however generally the standard of racing and organisation at a Masters event are as good as anything elsewhere and of course, whilst we pay for it as entrants, the hospitality makes it a good weekend/day out.

Don't forget anyone can have problems, like the timing at Silverstone for instance.

As a Masters customer I was pleased that the meeting went ahead, and am thankful to those responsible for applying pressure where necessary!

Regards the grids and races, sadly but understandably low on entries. It was nice to see under 2l and over 2l saloon car races. Unfortunately I wasn't able to watch the big bangers but could certainly hear them!

The mix of Proto 70s and Touring 70s was a bit daunting as the lap times are very different, but the 2 Gp4 cars certainly fitted well with Gp2 saloons, as they raced together in period. The Daytona was utterly gorgeous, but sadly the RSR blew up spectacularly right in front of me in practice. Hope the ensuing fire didn't cause too much damage! The 3 new cars out (2 Bats and my Escort) all failed to finish first race, but I managed to get my fuelling problem sorted and the car was reliable in 2nd. Now on order are larger gonads for driver.

Good to be able to say hello to JohnGee and chill with Terence over breakfast.

Looking forward to Brands!

If they don't declare their interest they should.I declare I am a grumpy old git!
What spicy bit was edited out of Mr Drabbles' post?Surly not a juicy bit.
Still to many meetings and clashes of dates,Pity Silverstone and Donington same weekend.Similar problem about all the meetings in France in early June.
The Historic Organisers are still screwing themselves. Why?

Very pleasent way to the start of a very good Mike thankyou.Glad you got the fuel sorted,I did notice you had picked up your pace by quite a margin!
Sorry I did'nt get the opportunity to come over to offer a hand,I was a little busy yesterday though! Nice drive.

Just to put the record straight and the rumours to bed,I know of no-one on here who is employed by Masters.

People on here are involved with Masters and have a link to Masters such as John as C of C who makes it clear and I understand you drive course cars. They must pay you expenses and thus you have a connection, even MP's are paid expenses! With them it supplements their income but I am sure this is not the case here. It's a good idea and saves other things getting in the way.
It would be better if people disclosed their position in regard to any organisation as things should be transparent, which brings me back to names and handles!

Meanwhile, back at Donington, there were one or two people who really were terribly bad mannered - the guy in the Mk2 Escort who wombled round spraying oil out of the back (enough that the oil spray was visible from the pitlane as he rounded Redgate) and continued to do so despite his crew putting out an in-board. His actions reduced the laptimes of our car that will usually run in the 6s to high 12s - and generally spoilt the race. My other current pet peeve is the general lack of working brake lights on so many cars - they check your overalls are properly closed, why do the scrutineers choose not to enforce this rule? (he says fervently hoping his brake lights continue to work properly.......)

Scruts always used to assiduously check brake lights, which always seemed to get the gremins in the Bay. My clean racing suit got impounded at Silverstone the other day because the zip (although fully functional) had slight wear. A great contribution to Race Safety, I thought! Cue Outraged Srutiineers!!

OK,just to put the rumors to bed[for whoever started them in the first place] I Drive the Safety Car for Masters,as I have been asked by other organizers also. I am NOT employed by any of these organizer's.
Opinions can and do change,it is one of those things we art all allowed to do.

Onto Simons observation regarding driver etiquette, fully agree on the brake light thing Simon, there were quite a few cars with faulty/non existent brake lights over the weekend as were drivers failing to abide by Pit Lane speed, drivers who land up in gravel traps who refuse to drive along on the grass when they get out of the traps was quite common yesterday as well!
Good to catch up yesterday by the way,and in case your wondering,no,there was no ulterior motive for my making the introduction yesterday.

Well Said!, considering the lead up to this, the pressure that a lot of people were under to make this event happen it is a credit to all involved who kept their chins up and continued with the job in hand that this event not only happened, but was in every sense, a sucess I believe.

Terry you were great....but...maybe late on one occasion!! lol

Simon,

Are you an employee or a customer, only that would make such a difference to your post?

Good to see some of the participants turning up, perhaps a few race reports wouldn't go amiss?

Can't find any results from TSL at the moment.

We are getting way off topic here, guys, and I would class your concern over Simon's deleted posts as 'a storm in a teacup'; nothing to get worried about; no conspiracy theories, no influences from Masters, and actually not a lot to see.

I do see a new thread coming out of JR's comments about meeting clashes - in fact Masters and HSCC were not the only historic meetings taking place this weekend, although, I think John, that some of these clashes are solely down to circuit availability. As for declaring interests, I am a non owning member of AMOC, a non competing member of HSCC and a car owning member of the VSCC. However, my real declared interest is in all things motor racing, and particularly that very broadbased genre we classify as Historic Motor racing.

(Edit, whilst I was typing this, and getting interrupted (!), several new posts have occurred - I actually started this following JR's post #39)

Must say that i had a fantastic weekend... My first podium finish (Top Hat U2L) ... ran out of fuel on slowing down lap... returned with no damage to car unlike others in the race.....

Still grinning as i beat my brother.....
