Edit - Messy race this, and we're not even half-way yet. Hope everyone involved in the 13-car pile-up are ok.

I missed the end, but caught the replay of it; looked to be a good battle. Listened to the first half on the radio. What a mess! Lots of torn up machinery. Kvapil took a nasty hit on the inside backstretch wall in the pile up.

The first two races have seen some awfully sloppy racing. Again, hope it's not a sign for things to come.

what happened to Ambrose? looked competitive early on, but then dropped back. Was only reading the NASCAR lap-by-lap report which doesn't explain much. I take it his rise to 5th and then dropping back to a lap down towards the end was due to pit cycles?

So frustrating - Ambrose was on the lead lap when the last caution was thrown. Commentators say Dale jnr gets the lucky dog, then when they go back to racing Dale jnr is in 10th place & ambrose is a lap down in 17th - wtf

Congrats to Jeff on getting the win & stopping the Kyle 3-race win weekend

Repaving is probably necessary, the asphalt is quite old by now. Reconfiguring it, however, feels a bit unnecessary and I'm worried it'll mess things up like it did at Bristol.

GET YOUR PIECE OF THE TRACK!

I have never been a huge fan of PIR, but it has started to grow on me a little because of it's uniqueness, not it's close racing. Still don't see the need of going there twice a year, and since there is no open wheel race there anymore, I am sure that the PIR folks feel they need to cater to NASCAR.

From PIR's news page;
this is the main portions of the "reconfiguration":

- Widen the front stretch from 52 to 62 feet
- Reconfigure pit road with the installation of concrete pit stalls
- Push the dog-leg curve between Turn 2 and Turn 3 out 95 feet
- Tighten the turn radius of the dog-leg from 800 to 500 feet
- Implement variable banking to ensure the immediate use of two racing grooves, including 10-11 degree banking between Turn 1 and Turn 2; 10-11 degree banking in the apex of the dog-leg; and 8-9 degree banking in Turn 4

No, the pavement was fine as it is.
