Fastest lap on TCR UK test day - Lewis Kent 1:05.086
BTCC 2017 pole time - Jack Goff 58.653
BTCC Race 1 Fastest Lap - Adam Morgan 59.744

That's 5.5-6.5 seconds per lap. Granted, TCR weren't in a qualy session, who knows how hard they were pushing, or if it dried up in the afternoon. But, you cannot call that "virtually identical" on 1.6miles circuit.

I think that was from the morning session which was a bit damp.

This says Taylor's time was a 59.300.

This, to me, is the crux of the issue. It's nowhere near as good - exposure and speed - and therefore must be significantly cheaper to stand a chance. Clios are cheaper again with far more bums on seats to attract sponsors.

As for which series are on which packages I do find it odd we have a single seat and a Porsche support race where the cars are way faster than the main event. Mind you, we used to have a GT race back in the '00s. I miss that...

off topic a bit I know, but doesn’t that clearly prove that BTCC crowds obviously don’t much care about how fast the cars are compared to others. it’s the closeness and entertainment factor of the racing thats the key to it’s popularity.

I would agree with that. If it were a race of 1 litre Nissan Micras mind everybody would probably fall asleep, but as long as it looks fast and there is some action then it should entertain.

Action packed - kamikaze pilots like in Clios - but looked as slow as my commute to work! Couldn't sit through that I'm afraid.

So, 13 days to go and still no sign of an entry list on the tcr uk website.

Exactly who do they think is going to part with cash to spectate at Silverstone?

Will there be any cars at all? (other than the cars Silverstone employees and marshals arrive in!)

I have a feeling that anyone hoping to drop pins without anyone hearing will be sadly disappointed.

No news in the past week, this series will be lucky if it gets the entry into double figures

I get the impression that you're going to be SO disappointed if anyone turns up for the first race!
Just give it a chance and let's see what happens, very rarely does a new championship start with full grids. It really is a case of chickens & eggs, if competitors get interested, the more will enter, and the more that enter. The more that enter the more interest there will be.

Where is everyone getting the idea that some on here don’t want the series to start? We have nothing against it, we just find it hard to take seriously, as we were promised a lot more entries

No, I will not be disappointed in the slightest. I think the disappointment will be reserved for the drivers, teams, sponsors and circuits.

Quite seriously, as a sports fan would you buy a ticket for a sporting event when you have no idea what you will be getting to see for your money? A football world cup game - yes - as I will be guaranteed a game between two national teams. Heck, on numerous occasions I've paid good money on a cold winters night to watch Scottish Highland League football - which is as far as you can get from national teams but nonetheless entertaining.

I'd happily watch a couple of dozen club racers, but what will I be watching at Silverstone at Easter weekend? Bunny rabbits nibbling the grass?!

I think the opposite has happened, a flurry of noise and teams buying machinery in anticipation to start with, but cars got sold when body with a budget came forwards to race them. The market just doesn't exist in the saturated UK racing landscape. You can't spend your racing budget elsewhere and get better value for money.

The UK Racing scene is too congested, even Autosport acknowledged this in this weeks issue.

The MSA needs to look at grid numbers and start forcing organisers to combine grids where numbers are lacking. This would free up space on congested timetables for new series such as TCR to develop and grow.

Marshals are also thin on the ground especially where two race meetings are held in close proximity and no marshal wants to volunteer for a series that has half a dozen cars racing, they are here for the racing, believe me there is nothing interesting about a poorly supported race where the winner is known before the cars leave the assembly area.

The last time the Palmer's were around, they didn't exactly enamour anyone with their methodologies. That being said, Moffat is a big draw for TCR UK and the inaugural series champion, provided he stays with the team for the whole season, the season goes ahead and the Alfa has the latest upgrades.

Surprised to see Moffat driving for the Palmers giving their (how to word this...) reputation in the BTCC paddock.

Good news having him involved for the Championship though. Junior is a decent driver too.
