DTM 2022

As the 2021 season is already in the history books (finale will probably be discussed for some time), it's time for a 2022 thread with first rumours/news/predictions etc.

As it'll be the second season with GT3 cars, I expect it to be more cars than this season - I'd also wish that part-time ("guest") entrants were awarded points.

Also, it's great to have Rene Rast back in DTM! On the other hand, we won't see Rockenfeller and Albon anymore.

The calendar is as follows:
Round 1 Portimao (29.04-1.05)
Round 2 Lausitzring (20-22.05)
Round 3 TBA (3-5.06)
Round 4 TBA (17-19.06)
Round 5 Norisring (1-3.07)
Round 6 Nürburgring (26-28.08)
Round 7 Spa- Francorchamps (9-11.09)*
Round 8 Red Bull Ring (23-25.09)
Round 9 Hockenheimring (7-9.10)*

Entry list:

CONFIRMED
Abt - Audi - K. van der Linde
Abt - Audi - R. Rast
T3 Motorsport - Lamborghini - ??
T3 Motorsport - Lamborghini - ??

RUMOURED/POSSIBLE
Grasser - Lamborghini - M. Bortolotti

Also worth noting Mueller has signed for the LMDH Audi program, so unlikely to run DTM in 2022 while he prepares for that

Possibly but van der Linde and/or Rast are also likely to be involved in this programme and they're already confirmed in DTM.

I'd like to see Muth back in one of those T3 cars, he showed some speed this season, more experience needed but one to watch.

As for Hawkey, she didnt show much, and Max Paul I dont know enough of to comment

Be nice to see Lamborghini represented with some factory guns, I see Mirko is a potential which is great.

I hope we see a bit more of Mclaren in 2022, and even a Aston Martin, to show that the DTM isnt just for German MFG's.

I would say about DTM that the pure grid numbers plus the quality on track was there and good.

Not suficient is other than the Nurburgring round was the manufacturer diversity. Ths is a suppoed to be top tier GT3 racing. 5 makes at most races does not cut it. For sure 100% need to keep full time efforts from those 5 makes but we could use teams to run full time with Porsche, Aston Martin, McLaren, and Acura.

Lawson will not return to DTM next year as he'll concentrate on Formula 2 and his way to F1. I wonder where that leaves AF Corse. Will they continue? If so, Cassidy is a favourite to take one seat but who can be alongside him?

DTM used to have 2-3 manufacturers. Having 5 would be perfectly fine.

Red Bull's decision whether to stay or not should be made soon, chances are described as 50:50.

Another possible rumour - Bruno Spengler admitted he'd 'do everything' to come back to DTM. If BMW steps up its involvement with a new car, I can definitely imagine it possible.

That's great, I'm not a fan of Monza, it might be great for F1 but not for slower cars. Imola is a lot better choice. So now I'm curious what the next TBA track will be. Brands Hatch?

So no Zolder in 2022 . Quite enjoyed the races at that old school track. Go to Spa instead I suppose.

It seemed impossible to have both Zolder and Spa in the calendar, I guess. I'd love the TBA track to be something in the UK but it's not very likely. I wouldn't mind another German track - Sachsenring or Oschersleben would be fine.

According to some information, Nico Muller will likely stay at Rosberg for 2022, while Rast seems certain at Abt. Also, it looks like no Florsch next year, at least not with Abt.

No JP Motorsport McLaren in the DTM. The team clearly explains why the series is not an option for them.
